Okay, so most of this two-parter was pretty underwhelming (standout scenes were when Amy was sucked down into the earth and the last four minutes of the finale ep) marked by the Doctor being ridiculously optimistic about humanity, but then Rory got erased from existence and it looks like the TARDIS gets destroyed.

I don't even know what to think.

I don't like that this is how they wrote Rory off from a Doctor/Amy stand point, especially considering this episode had me thinking that it's not just Amy who isn't committed to getting married, even as Rory's erasure is cool from a more cold-blooded narrative standpoint.

The threat to the TARDIS and, by implication, the Doctor is just fucking straight up awesome.

And if this had made it in

it would have been even clearer that NEITHER Rory nor Amy should be getting married. Honestly, the only reason I'm sorry Rory doesn't exist is that now that dynamic can't be explored.

I suspect that Rory will be back and that the dynamic will explored. They wouldn't go through so much set-up just to handwave the whole wedding plot away.

I just hope that the resolution involves Amy finally being honest with Rory (and herself) about her mixed-up feelings. Rory being saved by the Power of Love won't cut it for me. The show hasn't sold me on their having that kind of epic romance.

Agreed on both counts. I really want to see the Rory/Amy relationship explored in a real way, which I don't totally think it has been.

Amy keeps attaching herself to these men because she's unsure of her own direction -- which is understandable, given her age and her issues, but it can't go on forever. How sad was it during Amy's Choice that she was being asked to choose between the two men's visions of the future, and never had one of her own?

It's sad and very, very telling. I agree with you about how Amy needs to explore what SHE wants separate from the men in her life.
