Title: I Wouldn't Stop For Red Lights
Fandom: Castle
Characters: Beckett, Alexis.
Rating: PG-13
Author's Note: for [livejournal.com profile] fairest1 , who wanted Alexis being awesome.
Summery: Beckett might be in the middle of a crime scene – but Alexis' calls are worth taking anytime.

Kate Beckett was standing on a wrought-iron balcony thirty-five stories about New York's streets, gazing dispassionately at the body impaled on the spiky railing when her cell phone started to play The National's "Pretty In Pink."

She debated the likelihood that Castle was borrowing his daughter's phone. Again. Moderate-to-low, she decided and picked up. Admittedly, she was talking a personal call in the middle of working a scene, but Alexis' calls were worth taking.

"This is Beckett," she answered.

"I'm sorry to bother you," Alexis started, "but would you mind sending a couple of officers to the apartment?"

Beckett felt her body temperature drop, blood draining away from her face. Her hand was on her sidearm, fingers itching.

"I'm fine!" Alexis said quickly. "I should have said that first."

Beckett pivoted around, headed out of the crime scene and towards the elevator.

"One of Dad's crazy fans kind of broke in," Alexis continued.

Kate decided that she was taking the stairs.

"..and I sort of threatened him with my fencing foil. He's, um, I locked in the closet?" Alexis finished tentatively. "I wouldn't have called you but when I dialed 9-1-1 the operator thought I was making a crank call."

As soon as Beckett made sure Alexis was safe and this stalker was behind bars, she was going to fire that dispatcher, personally and with extreme prejudice. And then yell at Castle for buying a complete laser-tag set-up and skimping on his alarm system.

"So the perp is locked in your closet," Beckett repeated. "And where are you right now?"

"Holding the door closed?"

Kate ran thought potential outcomes of what might happen if Alexis stopped holding the door closed.

"Stay where you are," she ordered, sliding into her car. "I'm on my way."

"Okay," Alexis said, sounding her age for what might be the first time in her entire life.

"I'm on my way," Beckett repeated, and hit the sirens.
