Give me a fandom and I'll tell you three unpopular opinions about it. If you give me a show/book/movie/etc that I'm not fannishly active about, I'll give you three things I dislike about the media in question instead.

1.) I find it very hard to be too emotionally invested in how Bill mistreats Sookie. But every time he fails as Jessica's maker, I want to stake his ass.

2.) Jason fucking Stackhouse.

3.) That Jessica's virginity issue was never resolved. How are she and Hoyt working around it? How's their sex life? What about plastic surgery? Is there any that she could get her hymen removed?

I have to admit, with Bill and Sookie, I feel that way on a certain level as well. Canonically, it's so ridiculously over the top I struggle to actually believe they don't think it's unhealthy and bizarre, though I know the creators sincerely believe it isn't. It tends to spring out at me a little more because I watch the show in such piecemeal that I don't settle into 'this is the way things are' - every other time they pull something typical for them, I have a moment where I squint at the screen and go '...seriously?' but it's practically background noise now.

On the other hand, father --> daughter abuse/neglect has, I think, less of a well-entrenched history and context of 'oh, isn't he an adorably maladjusted but sekritly great guy' so while it's not as much of a hot button, I also haven't built up a tolerance for it.

I watch the show in such piecemeal that I don't settle into 'this is the way things are' - every other time they pull something typical for them, I have a moment where I squint at the screen and go '...seriously?' but it's practically background noise now.

Agreed. Also, this is a case where I wonder how much/if any the actors (apparently) loving relationship/marriage effects the writers' perception of the fictional relationship? I mean, I'm sardonically inclined to think not at all and Bill x Sookie would be this fucked up as long as the same people were writing it, but maybe...

True. Additionally, Jessica is pretty much constantly seeking knowledge and affirmation from just about everyone around her, and is CLEARLY hurting for what Bill isn't giving her... while Sookie is like, 'la, la, Bill is love!'

I...I mean, I feel like it would be the same as long as the same people were writing it? Just because the developments in their relationship are merely an extension of their actions in the whole text; Sookie's obliviousness and OOC blithe dismissal of vampire danger has been extending to everyone, Bill's condescending, self-righteous conviction he is correct in all things affects all of his interactions, not just their relationship.

Yeah, that's the big one that I couldn't put my finger on. Argh, Bill, self-recriminations don't mean shit if you're just performing added whining while still hurting people. Jessica deserves so much better.

She really does. It's interesting, because now that I think about it, it's the people her own age who treat her best (Tommy, Hoyt). Everyone else (Sookie, Bill, Pam) either inconsistently pays attention to her or act like she's an annoyance (or both). It's kind of a shame that the people who treat her best totally want into her pants /bitchy.

I find it very telling (and very believable) that Jessica really reached out to the online community while stuck in Bon Temps.
