redbrunja: (Do You Dream Of A Tragic Death? (Kanan))

3 Saiyuki Drabbles

These have been loitering on my computer for a while. They needed to get some fresh air. ^_^

#43: Road Hazards (Sanzo-ikkou)

The hitchhiker curled up in the corner behind Hakkai’s seat, arms wrapped tightly around her legs.

She was alone.

Goyjo was tempted to tell her what a bad idea that was, except that from the healing bruises on her face, she already knew or wherever she was leaving was worse.

“Do you have any food?” she asked tentatively.

“Hakkai didn’t shop before we left town,” Goku said in betrayed tones.

“Of course,” Hakkai rummaged in Hakaruy’s glove compartment, pulling out rice candies, several strips of beef jerky and an apple, all wrapped in a peppermint scented cloth.

Goku looked like he’d never trust again.

#38: Dirty Little Secrets (Yaone)

She envies Dokugakuji’s history.

It’s just as tainted as her own but he was protecting someone.

This is your fault, her father had told her, staring down at his wife’s still body, the tincture that Yaone had made clutched in her mother’s fingers. Yaone should have seen suicide in her mother’s eyes, should have questioned, but obedience had been bred into her bones. She’d been asked to mix similar items before and how was Yaone to know it hadn’t been for a patron?

Later, her father gave her to a monster.

She slipped five drops of poison into his whiskey.

#12: AU - Do You Dream Of A Tragic Death? (Gojyo)

Her hair is ash-blonde and dark with water.

She looks up at him, briefly, and then her green eyes close dismissively, like he’s not good enough to bother asking for rescue, and if there was ever a question of leaving her, it just vanished.

“Luckily for you,” Goyjo said, hoisting her into his arms, doing his best to keep the gaping wound in her stomach from spilling her guts onto the ground, “I’m an old hand at taking women home.”

When he finds the bruises, ugly, vicious things whose implications make him ill, Goyjo prays that she was unconscious when he said that.

oh wow... some hard stuff tackled in these ones and you did a very good job of getting your point across about what happened in them all especially the last one with what *wasn't* said.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2007-08-14 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

The last one was my favorite and I'm really glad that people besides me understood what I was trying to say, and found the subtly nice.

Thanks for your great comment!

[identity profile] phoenix600.livejournal.com 2007-08-14 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Your quite welcome, and I agree the last one is my favorite as well. I really love how you went about Gojyo in it; he says he usual off-hand not thinking through comment then finds out exactly what happened and... feels like an absolute heel for making the comment. Don't worry about not giving enough hints I think you did it perfectly ^_^

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. And "absolute heel" was the perfect description of how Gojyo felt about that situation - it's very much an 'open mouth - insert foot' situation which I think would happen a lot with Kanan.

And my the way, I really like that icon.

[identity profile] phoenix600.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
(arg my comment got eaten x_x)
Your quite welcome, and I tend to agree with you 'Specially since we all know by now that Gojyo tends to speak first then truly think about what he said later. (well at least more often then not with women)

I love this icon as well, and actually it's one of the only only ones that I have the creater credited for. (Cause like my icon page says some of those icons I've had for so long I don't remember anymore who made them)

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
Hate it when that happens. And yes, Gojyo has not mastered 'think, then speak.' And in his defense, he was trying to be comforting - it's only knowing the entiretly of what happened does his comment seem kind of horrifying, or at least in despicable taste. ^_^

And you have some nice Gojyo icons! I love the one with him asleep.

[identity profile] phoenix600.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 08:30 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah I know he was, and like you said only after finding out how bad it was did it seem in poor taste but.... yeah he is one I see that cares alot and only wanted to help but.. it went wrong in that situation.

And thank you i've got alot more of em but... i'm to broke to upgrade my account at the moment (and if you can't tell; Sinner, So good and Sleepy gojyo are my faves) did you like the comment i made for the sleeping one? XD

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2007-08-17 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, the fact that it come out so wrong is part of why I love that line so much.

I love the comment you have for the sleeping one, and oh my god do I want to be what he's leaning against.

Also, the text icon is by [livejournal.com profile] dawn_icons2 and the 'A Little Too Sinful' is by [livejournal.com profile] worst_case

[identity profile] phoenix600.livejournal.com 2007-08-17 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
Ah thank you for that I shall check both those places in the next few hours and.. credit is now up and I agree I would love to be the one he is leaning against as well XD.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 08:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. Is that from an episode or fan art?

And both of those icon makers are really good - well worth checking out.

[identity profile] phoenix600.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 09:00 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah I was looking at them yesterday and there are quite a few i had to snag for my collection (and I tend to use em in MSN and Yahoo as well)

Hm... i'm really not sure since I originally got it from a friend but.. it's really 50/50 which it is though...from the style I'm leaning more towards it being fan art.

[identity profile] phoenix600.livejournal.com 2007-08-17 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
(and by the way I love your 'Satisfaction Guaranteed icon XD)

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 07:48 am (UTC)(link)
And what a fun icon that is.

[identity profile] phoenix600.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 09:44 am (UTC)(link)
hehe yep I love those 2 (so good and gun)

[identity profile] gen50.livejournal.com 2007-08-13 09:49 am (UTC)(link)
interesting snippets.
i agree, what was unsaid is what the fic was all about.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2007-08-14 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. "Do You Dream of A Tragic Death" was my favorite, and I'm glad other people like it as well.

[identity profile] purpleicicles.livejournal.com 2007-08-13 11:04 am (UTC)(link)
The last line of the first one was awesome, and the second was just superb for exploring Yaone's secret (and not much revealed in the manga) past. The last one was just superb, and I agree with phoenix and gen above that the way things weren't said, Plus the last line - excellent Gojyo characterisation.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2007-08-14 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I enjoyed torturing Goku a bit, and had fun getting Yaone's rumored backstory straight in my head.

The last one is my favorite, and I'm really glad that people understood what was happening, because I did worry I wasn't giving enough hints.

Thanks so much for your review!

[identity profile] pzb.livejournal.com 2007-08-13 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
Hee....Poor Goku... How could he not think they'd be holding food out on him? XD

I love seeing Yaone's past put together so concisely. (and I really hate that Firefox's spell check is not a little more intuitive... Can't you read my mind, you stupid program??)

Damn...talk about painful timestamps...anyway, I digress....

And I love that Gojyo catches himself on his own words, even if he was just making a joke. It's just so him. :D

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2007-08-14 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I sure would be! I mean, it's just practical!

Yeah, that was the drabble I wrote right after I watched the fansub of that episode where they say she killed her parents. And admittedly, I have my doubts about the accuracy of that back story, just because Doku already has the parental-murder angle covered, I really wish we had a bit more hints from Minukura herself.

And god, that timestamp is obscene.

Yeah, I can bet with Kanan, or any woman who had been hurt in that way, Gojyo would make the comments he usually does and then be like - 'fuck.'

[identity profile] renegadekitsune.livejournal.com 2007-08-14 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, these were very nice...I especially like Yaone's, it was so...well..Yaone!

Psst, PZB, I'm learning the horrors of Firefox as I type. It's horrific.

D:

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2007-08-14 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I'm glad you like. And Yaone... I bet it would really bother her not just that she was sought revenge on her father, but that she did it for her own sake, and not someone else's.

What's wrong with Firefox? I'm using it and so far it's treated me nicely.

[identity profile] renegadekitsune.livejournal.com 2007-08-14 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
No idea, maybe it was just the whole "OMG NEW THINGS" thing...I hate change on a massive scale. It's getting better now though.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, yes, understood.

[identity profile] yukitheawesome.livejournal.com 2007-08-14 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, well, two and three were something certain creepy. Awesome, and two had amazing insight, but creepy nonetheless. o_o; One was hilarious. X3

And thanks for the invitation to bother. I'll take that under advisement. XD

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! Creepy was the goal. And I wrote 2 to deal with possible Yaone backstory, so I'm glad you found it insightful. I like the idea of hiding food from Goku, because I know that's what I would be doing in that situation.

[identity profile] nissalala.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow....just wow....

The last one had to be my favorite.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the last one is my favorite too.

Thanks for commenting!
