So I just finished the first season/serious of Misfits. At the moment, I don't have any thoughts that are burning to get out into the ether but if you, like me, have watched this show seduce people on your flist and are on the fence about giving it a try, here are some things you might want to know before making a choice (pretty unspoilery):

1.) Tone. It's dark but not bleak. This show isn't going to make you feel warm and fuzzy inside but it's also not going to kill your soul.

2.) This may say more about me than I should admit but I did not find Simon as creepy as I expected too.

3.) FANTASTIC MUSIC. Seriously, I would have watched this show a lot sooner if I'd know how great the music choices are.

4.) This show does not have a hot cast (excluding two main cast members and two reoccurring secondary characters). However, as you get to know the characters and get attached, their attractiveness grows.

5.) Brace yourself for the accents.

Every time I introduce my friends to this show, their first reaction is, "WHAT THE HELL IS THAT KELLY GIRL SAYING." I've watched the entire first season and every episode of the second season so far, and it's still hard to understand her sometimes.

Love the show, though, and I'm glad you gave it a try and enjoyed it! :)

Yeah, most of the time I can figure it out, but even so... I find it less than pleasant to listen to.

Awesomeeeeeeeee. Lol. Simon owns me, I can't help myself.

He's kind of like Rachel Berry in that I want to give him a hug and be his friend and treat him with the rest all human beings deserve.

Yay. You finally watched it. At least you're watching it in order, though. I went straight from 1x01 to 2x03 and then went back to watch the rest, which was a strange way to do things because everything I knew would happen sort of colored my view.

I totally found Simon creepy in most of the first season, but I admit to not finding him half as creepy as a lot of people do/did. I find his smile adorable no matter what.

I admit, I'm spoiled for stuff that happens in the second series (one particular scene was what got me to give the series another try) but I do prefer to watch things in order whenever possible.

He's a little creepy but honestly, not as bad as I was expecting.

Isn't the music fantastic? I feel like I've found all five of them super-hot since the beginning but you're probably right, they most likely grew on me :)

So fantastic! And you may have found them all super-hot in the beginning. Personally, while Kelly grew on me, Nathan still makes me gag. But part of that is his personality.

I always find it funny when people get confused by English accents. I'm so used to them I have no idea what people are talking about when they say they can't understand English accents. Though I shouldn't laugh, I had to get used to my friend's Indian accent because I'm so unused to it.

That's the nature of accents!

Lol I love Misfits. It's so...offbeat. Sometimes I'm just like, did that really just happen? But I have grown very attached to the characters and their antics. ^_^

I did not find Simon as creepy as I expected too.

While Simon is certainly creepy in some aspects (most strongly when involving the probation worker), I mostly just spend practically every scene he's in wanting to hug that boy. It gives me warm fuzzies every time he bonds with the rest of the group, because he just wants to belong somewhere so badly.

The music is great! I get happy every time the intro song starts playing lol.

Me too! Sometimes I even care about Nathan, which, you know, says a lot.

Same here. I just wanna be his friend!

Literally just watched 2.05, which was...interesting, to say the least.

Yeah, Nathan is pretty much constantly a prick that I want to smack in the face - especially when he's a dick to Simon. He does have his moments though, where he manages to be serious or actually amusing. I'm still glad he and Kelly didn't hook up. She could do so much better.
Sunday, December 12th, 2010 07:07 pm (UTC)
Oh, she can do LOADS better. And I hope in the third season (if we get one) she will.

I've liked Kelly from the beginning (in part because she strongly reminds me of Lauren Cooper/Catherine Tate (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHAJ4VFStUE) lol), so I really want to see her happy. I love her relationship with the other kids this season. She acts so tough, but she really cares about everyone, and there's just this way that her actress portrays this that I just love. Do you know what I mean?
Monday, December 13th, 2010 07:06 am (UTC)
I know exactly what you mean! And the Lauren Cooper character and Kelly are DEFINITELY being drawn from the same subculture.
Monday, December 13th, 2010 07:00 pm (UTC)
I think the term is chav?
Tuesday, December 14th, 2010 02:01 am (UTC)
Yeah... only as I understand it, 'chav' is a pretty insulting word, so...
Tuesday, December 14th, 2010 02:18 am (UTC)
Yeah, I think so (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chav).
Tuesday, December 14th, 2010 02:25 am (UTC)
...which is exactly why I didn't want to be all, 'OH, YES, LAUREN COOPER AND KELLY ARE JUST THE BIGGEST CHAVS EVER, LOLS!!111!1'
Tuesday, December 14th, 2010 03:35 am (UTC)
I did not mean to be offensive. I honestly had no idea.
Tuesday, December 14th, 2010 04:02 am (UTC)
Don't worry about it! I only know it's insulting because of a fashion lj I read where the commenter describes really tacky outfits as 'chavvy.'
Tuesday, December 14th, 2010 04:16 am (UTC)
Oh okay. :) Probably something good to know for future reference anyway lol.
Sunday, December 12th, 2010 11:14 am (UTC)
Well said! These were all things I didn't know either and would agree it's good to know! Although I personally found most of them hot since the beginning. Well, not so much Kelly (sorry, Kelly, I think so now!) and Nathan I've always thought was physically attractive but his personality is such a turn off. XD

Simon has been so tricky for me to navigate because obviously things happen that I knew should be really creepy/disturbing/etc to me and yet some combination of actor/writing made me always really root for Simon. There's so much going on behind his eyes, even when he's locked in an unsettling stare. I watched the behind the scenes features ripped from the S1 DVDs and the director called his eyes "magnetic" and I have to agree. :)

I've been watching S1 again already because, hello, I am obsessed (plus I need to cap) and there's so many lines where I'm like "OH, that's what Kelly said!" I always understand the gist but sometimes the actual words never reach me. XD

Exactly. Oh, Nathan, how can you suck so hard?

Word. I really like how in the first season you can just feel his discomfort and loneliness and his desire to be friends with these people, and in the season season, the love he has for Alisha is just so there and yet so leashed.

I always understand the gist but sometimes the actual words never reach me. XD

Same here. It's like, 'I think she said something insulting... I think she said something aggressive...'

I'm curious about the four people you refer to for #4.

I'd say Curtis and Alicia are pretty hot...but who is secondary, exactly?
Tuesday, December 14th, 2010 01:39 am (UTC)
Curtis and Alisha are the characters who I felt right away were attractive, and I also think Sally and the black police officer investigating the murder of the first probation officer were both pretty cute.
