Not to mention the measures in Congress right now that could take away all funding for planned parenthood and penalize people and/or businesses that have health insurance that covers abortion. NARAL and Planned Parenthood are both sponsoring petitions, and NARAL is tracking several other bills in state legislatures.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2011-02-17 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, I am totally calling my congress woman later today to talk about how much I support planned parenthood.

[identity profile] mistaria.livejournal.com 2011-02-17 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
Um... what? What kind of crazy is this? What kind of world do we live in? o_o

Also, pretty much what I always say about abortion is that I would rather they just end the child's life before it has even begun rather than bring yet another unwanted child into the world.

Yeeeah... I wish pro lifers could just wake up and smell reality.

Your icon. So much.

Agreed.

Yeeeah... I wish pro lifers could just wake up and smell reality.

I actually talked with my mom about this last night our conclusion on the pro-life movement was that its a lot of people who did not have someone question their beliefs early enough in love who then became addicted to their outrage.

Thank you so much for posting this link. Her commentary rings very, very true with me, and I really have no words for how effing stupid that law is. Criminally ridiculous.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2011-02-17 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Criminally ridiculous is the word for it.

And I feel like I would react in a very similar way to those women if I had an unplanned pregnancy.

[identity profile] terenewen.livejournal.com 2011-02-17 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, I probably would too. We might be built to have babies, but pregnancy is fucking HARD and dangerous and does irreversible things to your body. And guess what, that's not okay with me!

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2011-02-18 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Forget what it does to your body – I do NOT want a kid right now, and even if I DID want to raise a child, I would have a really hard time justifying bringing another human onto this overpopulated planet.

[identity profile] terenewen.livejournal.com 2011-02-18 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Gah, I totally left out part of my thought process, which was that even if you gave the kid up for adoption, it would still be a ridiculous amount of time, money and pain to go through.

For a mistake that you never wanted in the first place.

[identity profile] greynonentity.livejournal.com 2011-02-17 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Say what? Seriously? How do you even consider passing that? Geez. What is up with you South Dakota?

Apparently the lack of trees has DRIVEN THEM CRAZY.

There are times when slapping someone through the internet seems like a good idea. That or I'll just go read Slacktivist again and remember that this is still a world where pro-choice, same-sex-couple-supporting, Buffy-quoting evangelists exist, so it can't all be bad.

Really? Are you sure?

[identity profile] fairest1.livejournal.com 2011-02-17 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
. . . if I can hide in a sane corner of the internet it's okay. Though I'll show my support to some form of underground railroad for women who have had abortions or those employed in abortion clinics who want to flee to Canada where people are . . . well, we still have morons, but we don't make it okay to kill doctors.

[identity profile] winslow-arizona.livejournal.com 2011-02-17 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
What the eff.

This is 2011. How is it that people can still think that way? No, scratch that, do they think? Ever?

...I'm about at the point where every other phrase out of my mouth today will be loud and enraged cursing. I should go look at pictures of kittens or something.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2011-02-17 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
If things like this keep popping up on your flist, you might need look at pictures of kittens and puppies to keep your blood pressure under control.

[identity profile] winslow-arizona.livejournal.com 2011-02-17 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
This is actually the first I've heard of this shite. If it kept showing up I'd be dead on account of spontaneous combustion right now.

If it's legal for them to kill abortion doctors, then it should be legal for me to come after these morons with a chain saw.

That was my thought! If it's my rights versus your religious beliefs, I want this be be a fair fight!

She certainly is!

[identity profile] nimblnymph.livejournal.com 2011-02-17 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Y'know, for such a pretty state that is some really ugly reasoning.

Not to mention utter bullfuckery most foul.

[identity profile] nimblnymph.livejournal.com 2011-02-17 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It got me thinking though. They're trying to legalize murder... but are against legalizing weed? Huh. Forgive me if I don't understand how people being stoned on their couches are more dangerous than a bunch of self righteous, gun toting extremists.

[identity profile] iapetusneume.livejournal.com 2011-02-18 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my god that's so incredibly horrible. It baffles me that it even got brought up in a committee.

No murder is justifiable. That's why there's a difference between homicide and manslaughter in the courts. The whole idea surrounding Justice involves due process. Even people guilty of horrible crimes on death row, people who will die for their crimes, were still tried in a court.

It is not for an ordinary citizen to take justice in their own hands like that. Individual citizens are not a judge and jury, they have no right to give the death penalty.

If this horrid thing somehow did pass, I know it would be taken to the Supreme Court and I bet it would be overrulled. I know plenty of ProLifers who would find this law disgusting. What I'm worried about is that there would be victims between the bill being passed and it getting declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2011-02-20 12:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Right. And just hearing how awful South Dakota is on these issues NOW makes me want to rage and hit people.

[identity profile] ivy-chan.livejournal.com 2011-02-18 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
I am seriously about done with politics right now. I've been following that piece of nonsense on unfunny_business and between it, and redefining rape, I am almost ready to vigilante the hell out of people. This is some serious bullshit.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2011-02-18 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Well said.

*slow clap*

[identity profile] fallingtowers.livejournal.com 2011-02-19 08:54 am (UTC)(link)
I can't fucking believe this. The more I hear about the "pro-life" forces in the States, the more rage I have when I hear some of my friends here in Germany go onabout how terrible abortion is and how women should rather have not one unless their life is in danger yadda yadda yadda. And then I look at some of the shit that's going down in the US culture wars, and think, "well, this is what a "pro-life" society might look like in reality" and want to scream.

(N/B: Abortion is a sort of divisive/taboo topic in Germany, too, with a complicated legislative compromise measure that allows for early abortions as well as some late abortions, but there's not such strong "pro-life" movement around here - although quite a few conservative Catholics would probably love to make away with it if only they could.)

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2011-02-19 09:14 am (UTC)(link)
I am fine with individuals choosing not to have abortions – but when that position starts to be legalized, and is pushed for as a movement, IT IS ONE OF THE MOST ANTI-WOMEN POSITIONS TO TAKE.

Yes. Head the warning that is the US's prolife movement. Because it leads to a.) unwanted children, b.) women not getting the healthcare they need/want and c.) the idea that abortionists are fair game and it's always hunting season.
