–I got the job I really, really wanted; I start Tuesday.

–I went to see Super 8, which was awesome.

–I listened to one of my bffs rant about the 7th HP book. She was articulate and outraged and hilarious.

–This was linked all over my flist today but I'm going to link to it as well: The Boy Who Lived Forever, which is the only professional article on fanfiction that I ever felt actually got it. Best quote: They're fans, but they're not silent, couchbound consumers of media. The culture talks to them, and they talk back to the culture in its own language.

–If you haven't been keeping an eye on 12_12_12's meta-ings about gender, you should check it out. Especially part two, where she talks about Blair Waldorf and the difference between nice and good, and I name-check some of my favorite bitchy, BAMF ladies in the comments.

–All the cards I use most in my purse - my debit card, my credit card, my bus pass, my library card are all basically the same shade of blue.

Wooohooo! Congrats!

–I went to see Super 8, which was awesome.

Wasn't it? It had an absolutely excellent cast and was just overall awesome. You could say that "Super 8" was "Super Great!"

...my Gods. I am so sorry I said that. That's probably my worst pun yet.

That's just too cool.

That's absolutely wonderful! What kind of job is it?

Really?! Wow. I never would have pegged Super 8 to be good. I kind of wrote it off on the Stephen Spielberg and George Lucas Are Going Insane wagon.

That article about fanfic is fabulous. I've read a few, and they all seemed highly condescending in an "oh look, they think they're writers" way. This guy seems to empathize with people enough to listen to what it means to them and relay it appropriately in a sympathetic, respectful way.

That is GLORIOUS.

My debit card used to be a pretty blue but they blocked it because of an info leak on their end and I needed a new one. It's illustrated and not bad, but it's orange and it seriously challenges the chromatic scheme I prefer.

Congrats on the job!

I loved Super 8 as well. Actually saw it twice, lol.

Thanks for the link to that article; I think that's pretty fucking great. I don't ever expect fanficton to become mainstream in any near future, but it's cool as hell to see such a balanced and interested view of it. And learn which authors I should not bother to read due to their stupid "oh, my children/copyright" views. God, that irritates the shit out of me.

Super 8 was amazing. Descriptions of it as an ode to childhood were very accurate.

That was a really great article; I almost want to rec it on my real life social media sites!
