Some more LJ topics from the ABC meme:
Hermione Granger. She's awesome. What else is there to say?
chomiji asked about my favorite Terry Prachett book/character and as much as I want to say Tiffany Aching... and as much as I adore her... that would be a lie. It's Moist Von Lipwig. Little anecdote to illustrate why: when I was reading Going Postal, I literally dog-eared half of the pages so I could find all the funny quotes I wanted to share with my mom. At one point, I read her a humorous section and she refused to let me stop reading. Basically, I find Moist HILARIOUS and I dig the romance and, basically, I just love that book and that character to bits.
Leslie Knope. Where to even begin with the awesomeness that is Leslie Knope? For the sake of my sanity, I am going to pull out two facets of her delightful characterization: her feminism and her niceness.
First off, can I just say how wonderful it is to have a outspoken, actively feminist character on tv? Who is not mocked for her beliefs but is textually supported in her position that women are awesome? It makes my heart gooey to think of Leslie promoting girl's with things like Camp Althena and her wall of women in politics.
The other thing I wanted to mention was her niceness. Now, for a lot of main female character it seems like niceness is a default; god forbid a female lead be anything but nice, nice, nice. But none of the characters who fall into that default mode are nice like Leslie Knope. Because Leslie Knope is nice without losing a fucking shred of her agency. Leslie Knope is so nice, she is going to throw you the best goddamn birthday party you have ever had. Leslie Knope is nice and she is going to turn the pit next door into a park. Leslie Knope is nice so she's not going to let her city's budget crises stop her from throwing a children's concert. Leslie Knope has been very civil... but she will waterboard you.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
I think one of my very favorite moments on the show is when Ben goes to the guy and asks him a favor (why do I think it was the police chief? I can't remember the exact circumstances at the moment, which means I'll need to rewatch the episode tonight) and the guy's like, "I'm going to do it, but not for you. I'm going to do it because Leslie is the nicest person ever and she helps people and I will always help her out if she needs it." Because it just shows why people love her.
And also why she should be president.Leslie's niceness is a force and it's the genuine heart of the show.
