Title: Lobster Races
Fandom: Haven
Rating: PG
Pairing: Audrey/Duke
Summary: Haven has weird festivals. Which isn't really a surprise, when you think about it.

"Officer Parker, are you actually off duty?" Duke asked from so close to her back that he could smell her sunscreen.

Audrey jumped, turned, and kicked him lightly on the shin, the skirt of her eye-catching sundress flaring. "Don't creep up on me like that. God. I could have shot you."

"Yeah," Duke said fondly, remember her penchant for pairing loaded weapons with pretty dresses.

Audrey glared at him, eyes narrowed, and then turned back to watching the crowd that surrounded the aquatic race track where the annual 4th of July lobster race was being held.

There was a lot of cheering and groaning going on as the race continued and Duke rocked back on his heels, satisfied that whichever lobster won, he was still going to be making a profit from the betting.

Audrey was looking surprisingly unhappy for a women who had a ridiculous display like a lobster race in front of her and an attractive gentleman in the mood to be entertaining right behind her.

"Does everything in this town have to have a lobster theme?" she asked, in the tone of someone ready to hate everything on the face of the earth.

Ah, bitchiness! An as-yet unseen side of Audrey Parker. This could be fun.

"But of course," Duke said, stepping to her side and widening his eyes dramatically. That got her to crack a smile.

"I can kind of understand Nathan's distaste for seafood," he mused and Audrey's smile vanished.

In contrast, Duke suddenly felt like the sky was just a bit bluer than normal, especially when he heard her teeth grinding.

Suddenly, Audrey being off-duty when this morning's sunrise had been green was less 'Parker finally learns how to relax' and more 'old news, Nathan Wuornos is an idiot with women.'

Duke slung an arm around Audrey's bare shoulders, managed not to get completely distracted by her skin and the way she shivered before leaning oh so slightly against him, and steered her towards one of the concessions stands. "You need ice cream," he decided.

"What about the race?" she asked shrewdly. "Don't you want to see how your bets turned out?"

Duke smiled brightly. "Oh, sweetheart, I already know I'm winning today," he said. "Besides, we have at least an hour before the leading lobster comes within a foot of the finish line."

I admit, I was a little surprised when you didn't comment... it was originally on one of your memes.
