Parks 5x05

Okay, first of all, I was totally unspoiled for the proposal and am *so glad* about that because it was a glorious, glorious surprise.

It was perfect. Everything about that was perfect. From Leslie needing to stop Ben because she needed to remember everything to saying yes before the question was out... it was glorious.

I was so happy for Leslie, my stomach was literally hurting.

Arrow 1x01-1x03

I've been enjoying this enough to watch the first couple of episodes. It's a little campy but the main character is hot, so.

(Also, this show seems to LOVE having characters shirtless and either scarred or tattooed - the art department must really enjoy that.)

As promised, this is nice (i.e. slightly inappropriate) chemistry between Oliver and his sister Thea (who's nick-name used to be 'Speedy' so I have hope that she and Laurel will end up being vigilantes later in the season) and absolutely no chemistry with Laurel.

Laurel actually has nice chemistry with Oliver's best friend, who I really like (although, seriously, I could not believe that the show wanted me to buy that there was ANY reason why Laurel and Tommy shouldn't have been sexin' it up beyond Laurel's low opinion of Tommy). I don't think cheating ex-bf gets a way in who old friend fucks, you know what I mean?

I really like Laurel's father being the only cop in the city - I really like that actor and he's amusing to watch (also, I'm a sucker for good i.e. interesting father-daughter relationships) and I do like that everyone is emotionally entangled with everyone else.

I get a bit annoyed with Oliver for killing nameless thugs and then giving the rich assholes calling the shots a chance to publicly repent and live - just kill the assholes, god! - but he does understand the importance of ice cream, so.

I'm sort of embarassed that I'm watching Arrow, because I don't find it deep at all. I don't even really care about Oliver except when he's wearing his costume, and yeah - his double standard for killing is meh. I guess it goes back to being a hired gun versus a guy who the system can actually make recompense from. However, I am liking Laurel and Thea and Tommy, and even the bodyguard whose name I can't recall right now. Everyone but Oliver, trololol. I don't hate him, I suppose, he's just not...compelling for a dude who's the main character. But the tattoos and scars are nice.

I wanted Laurel (or even Tommy) to say: "Dude! You were sleeping with her sister when you died!" Pretty sure the bro code allows for it. Actually, I liked Oliver a bit more when he didn't go ballistic over ~the reveal.

Leslie/Ben kill me. Slaaaaaain.

Oh, it's super-shallow and ridiculous.

My verdict is still out on the Oliver/Laurel chemistry. I think it's gotten better every episode and I'm willing to give it time to grow. I am pleased with how they're handling that relationship, though; she SHOULD be prickly about him, forever, and I like that Oliver acknowledges that nothing he can ever do will make both the cheating and her sister's death up to her. And yet I like that they can't quite stay out of each other's lives, because that rings really true to me in light of their previous relationship and because of Sarah's death.

He does have better chemistry with his sister, though. And the supporting cast is pretty great overall. It's not award winning television, but I really am genuinely enjoying it. And not just for the ab porn. Though that is a consideration.

Ben and Leslie KILLED me. A ghost left this comment. For real.

*nods*

Personally, though, I kind of wish they'd stayed prickly (or at least Laurel) had stayed prickly longer. Because she reached out to him FAST, imho.

I am also dead.

I just recently finally watched all of Parks & Rec for the first time and love it! Loved the proposal and wasn't expecting it. And I loved Leslie's Rosie the Riveter costume. :D

Leslie and her feminism is something I am just ENDLESSLY in love with.

I'm so jealous of people who weren't spoiled (I ended up seeing a filming pictures of Amy with the ring on before the episode, boo)! In the end it didn't really matter because the way the scene was shot was so perfect that it didn't matter that I knew it was coming, but it would have been a nice surprise. Sometimes I think about all those times Leslie talked about her love life disasters ("one time a guy got down on one knee and told me never to call him again") and I just... am so, so happy for her (and Ben. And both of them. And me).

So much agreed. I love how in character Ben's proposal was and I love that when faced with some really cool career opportunities, he picked Leslie, because I feel like so often in her love life, Leslie has been the one not loved or left behind, etc.
