Fandom Tennis Match Meme!

Okay, here's how this is going to work. You comment with a fandom question. I answer it and then ask you a question that has some thematic relevance to the question you asked me.

Dean Winchester?

I probably have more fondness for that character than he deserves, due to quitting the show back in season two.

Do you have a character who you love, and that love surprises people?

I finally have a chance to watch IM3, so that's what prompted this question.

What are the qualities that you think makes Iron Man a good superhero? Or anyone a good superhero in general?

Do you think there are any sort of core foundational characteristics that are universal to this specific type of heroism?

Okay, I'm going to answer this in reverse:

Do you think there are any sort of core foundational characteristics that are universal to this specific type of heroism?

Nope. When you have a category that spans every time of character from people like The Punisher to Superman, I don't think that there is a specific character trait that you have to have to make a superhero.

What are the qualities that you think makes Iron Man a good superhero? Or anyone a good superhero in general?

I think the things that make Tony Stark a good superhero (MCU-verse) are the same things that make a good character: he's interesting to watch, he has flaws, he has a great growth arc, his personality and the personalities of his antagonists mirror each other. I mean, if you look at the first Iron Man, you see some very basic storytelling done really, really well. Think of the way that JUST THE MAGAZINE covers in the first -what? ten minutes? - beautifully set up Tony's father issues, his relationship with Obediah, and why Obediah would want to kill him. Like, there is some masterful storytelling going on there.

To return to your question (because I got off track) I think a superhero needs to have SOME REASON for super-heroing but there are SO MANY COMPLETELY different reasons why someone who be a superhero that it's hard to argue for a universal constant anywhere.

What is one superhero that just doesn't work for you and why?
