“She not just heterosexual, she’s Barbie heterosexual.”

So I came across this on tumblr:

Which got me thinking about characters who read as ‘not-straight.’ Basically, I’m going to take this as a chance to mention about some badass queer ladies (canonically or noncanically) and bug me in the comments about your favorites ‘no way is he/she straight’ characters in the comments. Remember to show your work.

So let me mention:

FAITH.

Like, I know this can fall unhelpfully into the 'sexually aggressive ladies = wild crazy bisexuals' but she just reads as so. queer. to me. Her relationship with Buffy, the way she engages with other women generally (the Lilah/Faith convo has ~~~vibes) and of course the Faith/Buffy relationship. Plus Faith's particular relationship with her sexuality in season 3 makes me totally buy either closeted lesbian or bi.

I feel like Faith is one of those characters who notoriously reads as queer, because… look, her conversations with Buffy are SO sexualized and Faith has SO MUCH emotional investment in Buffy that it’s really easy to read that relationship as romantic/sexual.
