Look, canon is canon, but as long as you respect it enough not to write your characters out of character? It's fanfic. That means it's a free playing feel.

(And those canon/not canon debates get me. It should be like porn - I know canon when I see it, doesn't mean I have to treat it like it's holy.)

Katara and Zuko get together? Sure, but at least acknowledge that Aang has strong feelings for her.

Plus, acknowledging that Aang has strong feelings leads to angst, and who could pass that up?

Exactly! It's just crazy. Remembering the bits that occur in canon when going in your own direction results in more interesting plots! Angst, stuff blowing up, etc.

Though in working out a GG AU wherein Gil decided he may as well explain why he hit Othar with a wrench so Agatha didn't think he was horrible, I realized it would completely change everything that came after it and stop the hive engine from being activated.
