I Can Read The Writing On The Wall

I stalled out in the middle of season one of Arrow. But I have the sneaking suspicion that I will end up just starting to watch season two when it airs because there are enough people on my flist who watch it.

Plus Summer Glau will be on it.

Plus Felicity.

Plus Oliver's abs.

Oh, god, it's totally a lost battle, isn't it?

IMO, the second half of the season is much stronger than the first half. They actually do interesting stuff with the mytharc plus you see significantly more Felicity. The Island flashbacks become less boring, if you can believe it. If you made it this far without rolling your eyes so hard they fell off you head, you should stick with it. :) I think I started getting more seriously interested in the show when Felicity learned Oliver's secret -- that's, eh, "The Odyssey", which is episode 14.

This show started off as brainless eye-candy and became legit awesome near the season end. The last 3 episodes of the seasons are balls-out amazing. My favourite ep of the entire season is 1x21, "The Undertaking", which has Felicity going undercover alone in a shady casino (no doubt you've seen screencaps at Tumblr). OH MAN. SO GREAT. I guess if the show continues to drag, you can just watch a few key episodes?

Oh, that happened a few times. ^_^

I actually am past the point where Felicity finds out Oliver's secret, and the addition of gruff, hot, Australia dude has made the Island a much more entertaining place for me.

It's more that I got distracted by other things and never went back; I'm getting the feeling is it going to be very much fannishly worth my while to be current with this show.

Plus Oliver's abs.

Those are what did it for me.
Plus Oliver's scars and tattoos. XD

There's a cool fanfic - My Secrets Become Your Truth (http://archiveofourown.org/works/906655/chapters/1754755) by Anthfan which has an appearance by Smallville AU Lois and Clark wherein Lois channels all our thoughts when she asks how Felicity concentrates with Oliver and Diggle half dressed and sparring in the lair all the time! LOL.

But yeah, the amount of hot guys with great physiques is not lost on the majority of the fans watching this show.

I feel like Diggle’s abs. AND ARMS, SWEET MERICFUL ZEUS. Are very underrated by fandom.

Aww, man. I gave up on Arrow after a couple of episodes but now that you mention Summer Glau, I may need to change my mind.

Truthfully, I didn't even get into Arrow til Felicity was put on the phone list. So for me, it's like s1 only consists of 10 episodes. I adore Diggle, but omg the first chunk of s1 is so. hard. to. watch. I am so glad they stopped with the VO, and instead gave Amell Ramsey and Rickards to actually bounce off of, in the factory. Because OMG THE VOICEOVER. IT IS SO TERRIBLE.

Pretty much everyone feels that way, I think.

I am so glad they stopped with the VO,

To me, the VO was NOWHERE NEAR AS EGREGIOUS as the Laurel/Oliver relationship. That was what was killing me in the early days.

I 'shipped Laurel/Tommy SO DAMNED HARD, and I am so not ok with Laurel and Oliver sleeping together. It just came out of nowhere for me. Laurel was genuinely so over Oliver, and it just felt so wrong, even as a rebound sex sort of thing.

[identity profile] jtrevizo-1013.livejournal.com 2013-09-24 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Not to clear the playing field for Oliver/Felicity, but I really did like Tommy/Laurel too. I felt they had a stronger relationship built on 5 years of bonding following Oliver's "death". The fact that they did the triangle and Tommy ended up losing (even before he died) was pretty crappy in my opinion.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2013-09-27 07:52 am (UTC)(link)

I wouldn’t go so far as to say that I shipped them, but Laurel was actually almost interesting with Tommy.

Those last 10 episodes are so much stronger, but you kind of need to piece in earlier episodes ("Pilot", "Lone Gunman", "An Innocent Man") to build the Digg/Oliver friendship/partnership so it has context for the last 10 episodes.

As someone who just got into Arrow and is really excited for season 2, I definitely support this! While I liked Arrow from the start, it definitely kicks into gear in the 2nd half of the season, especially when Felicity starts getting more screentime.
