Has anyone ever, actually seriously argued that a dog was good security?

And since the answer is clearly "no" can we please delete that trope from the fanfic lexicon for all eternity?

Is that a trope? Or am I misunderstanding the question? Are we talking about...actual dogs? As in, guard dogs?

You mean you've never read the fanfics where the male half of the ship is like, "i worry about you. you should get a dog." and the female is like, 'you're so silly, lol, okay," and then gets, like, a tiny dog and the joke is that a tiny dog is a bad guard dog?
