I'm In A Bit Of A Moral Quandary ... (Boiling Rock Spoilers)

Mom: I knew it! I knew Zuko could bring Mai out of her shell!
Me: Yeah, I didn't hate her either.
Mom: *glees*
Me: I still think Zuko and she would make a horrible couple.
Mom: Oh, you just say that because you think he would be better with Katara.
Me (mentally): No, I think that because when they dated, it was much with the suckage.
Mom (mentally): *plans Fire Nation wedding for two well-bred fire nation persons*
Me (mentally): Zuko's heir will have blue eyes. Zuko's heir will have blue eyes. Zuko's heir....

Also, I'm in a bit of a quandary regarding summaries.

Basically, I'd like to write some post-Boiling Rock with Suki and Sokka, but I'm wondering how to write the summery so that I don't spoil it for anyone. First, I'm wondering if I should even bother trying - is there anyone with internet access that doesn't know Suki comes back in Boiling Rock? Secondly, I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on how to let people in the know know that it's a Suki fic, without spoiling anyone not in the know.

Featuring: the Warden's capturer. The wall-runner. Knew Zuko from earlier.

You could write them, but hold off posting for a while?

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Holding off posting would be a good idea, except that the episodes aren't going to air until July. I could wait until the DVD comes out, though. *ponders*

[identity profile] mzminola.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh dear. How did the internet get a hold of them so early? And why does the DVD come out before the episodes air?

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2008-04-29 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Some nice soul got an advance copy of the upcoming dvd and ripped it.

No one knows. Seriously, I really want to know what Nick is thinking to take an 8 month hiatus to show only five episodes. It's stupid enough when they do that for a whole new season of a show.

[identity profile] mzminola.livejournal.com 2008-04-29 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
And now it's all over the web. Thank you, internet.

*facepalm* That is incredibly stupid of them. It's far too long for building up tension, it's gonna lose viewers.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2008-04-29 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
I know. It's it a wonderful thing?

Oh, it's way too long to just build tension.

All I can think of is that they wanted to wait to show the finale at San Diego Comic Con. Look at the airdates. Look at the date of SDCC. They'll have just enough time to air #16 and #17, and then show the four-parter at the convention.

This may be the WORST attempt to cater to an older fanbase, ever known to mankind.

What a waste. If I'm right, when their rep goes onstage to make the prerequisite perky pre-convention-premiering speech about what a joy it's been, working with such wonderful creators and fans, and how much Nick hopes we enjoy the epic finale of their epic show, I hope (s)he gets booed off the stage. -_-

I can't tell if I'm pleased to finally have a semi-rational explaination, or pissed because I have been suffering through being slowly spoiled without my consent, just so a fraction of the fandom of Avatar can see the finale at ComicCon.

The only way is to say "post TBR." But then you can't say anything about Suki. Hmm. You're right, that is a quandary. The only thing I can think of is to hint broadly in the summary. Like "While on a fishing trip with Zuko, Sokka finds someone he's been looking for." *shrug*

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think that's what I'll end up doing. Although that might get me some annoyed Tokka shippers if I go, "Sokka and that girl he's in love with!" ^_^

Dude, it's still so cool that you share a fandom with your mom. I'd love to have discussions like that with her. Um, by her I mean my mom, not yours. >__>

Having family members in your fandoms is always awesome. My mom's not (well, except for when I have a love affair with ER or Law and Order) but my little brother is completely awesome and into both One Piece and Avatar, which makes us DVD buddies.

[identity profile] terenewen.livejournal.com 2008-05-01 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
It sounds pretty awesome. The best I have is watching The Tudors with my mom and laughing about all the random sex that those Elizabethans were apparently always having...go figure.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2008-05-01 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
Elizabethian sluts FTW!

[identity profile] terenewen.livejournal.com 2008-05-01 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
YES! Who cares if Henry was really a fat, bearded type! This is the 21st century! Disclaimer: I actually did enjoy The Tudors, and I probably wouldn't like it at all if they portrayed Henry like he really was. Jonathan Rhys-Meyers is damn fine. End of story.

I especially liked the random gay subplot that lasted for all of two episodes and just screamed "RATINGS STUNT!" ...not that I complained about that too much either, when I was watching it. >__> Oh, hypocrisy of mine.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2008-05-01 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, who wants history invading our soapy costume drama?

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah, it's totally awesome.

...except when my little control-group zutara shipper abandons me.

Well, if they don't know anything at all from the Boiling Rock, they won't know from the summary if Suki comes back in the episode, or if it's a speculative thing you wrote set after that. And if they know ANYTHING about the Boiling Rock, they have to know hat it's Suki's return episode. So I'd suggest putting in 'Post-TBR' and doing a summary as normal, not referencing in the summary WHEN Suki returned.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a good idea. So you think if I just put post-TBR and then do a summery as normal, with Suki involved, it won't spoil anyone who's not already spoiled?

[identity profile] fairest1.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 11:27 am (UTC)(link)
Well, you could say "Spoilers for Boiling Rock!" followed immediately by an LJ cut, and the rest of the summary inside.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a good idea.

See, I can handle Kataang better than Maiko, because Kataang (imho) didn't highlight the worst traits of the characters involved.

Agreed regarding the lesbian subtext.

Just say it's post TBR? Fandomme is smart, listen to her.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Will do.
