gacked from [profile] rachelthedemon:

Name a character from one of my fandoms and I'll give you either (a) three facts about them from my personal canon/fanon, (b) a reason he/she sucks, (c) a reason she/he is awesomecakes, (d) three things that never happened to that character or (e) three people that character never fell in love with and why. You pick the character. I pick the letter.

1.) She's one of the few whores who honestly likes sex, even if she lost her taste for the games that prostitution requires.

2.) Since coming to the Shadow Realm, sometimes, late at night, the jealousy (that she's alone while everyone else has that special, special person who made the pain all worth it) claws up inside her and she feels like she's going to split apart with rage and wishes futilely that there was call for her other profession here.

3.) By the time she meets the love of her life, she's give up on him ; it took quite a bit of work to win her heart and not just a place in her bed, and he things it would be worth a hundred times more effort than it took to make her fall for him.

Also, great icon.

Ooh, I'm loving that you have her showing jealousy towards all the people (frighteningly many) who managed their Happily Ever After. I've wondered about that angle as well, and if she often feels like she's being rejected as both a highly dangerous, competitive woman (assassin, without the nurturing qualities of Jaenelle and the women who were happily married), and as an experienced one (former whore, a label that carries a lot of stigma.) ...And then I want to write femmeslash between Surreal and Karla.

And thanks! Made it in an icon-making burst after watching POTC2 for the first time. ^__^

Yes, exactly. And I don't nessecarily thing it says good things about the author that Karla and Surreal are the two women who DON'T get their perfect reward men.

I have no doubt that part of Surreal really resents the fact that she's... kind of an odd duck out, in a way no one else is.

On Karla not getting a perfect reward man: I'm happy that she doesn't, because I really do get tired of the fairytale 'all you need to make you happy is a man/woman to share your life with.' I've decided she's the book's token asexual and embrace her fondly as well as my very short list of other token asexuals. (Either that or she's a lesbian, but we've never seen her exhibit any interest towards anyone, and it's stated that she has no sexual desire towards men.) She did get dragged through a lot of crap, but I think this is how Bishop treats her favorite characters. She makes their lives horrific while she can.

Surreal, though, could definitely use a hunk of man-meat. Then again, is there any man AWESOME enough to deserve her? I am kind of glad that she didn't get paired with Falonar right off the bat as well, because that would have been one too many 'We're in Kaeleer! Let the wedding bells ring!' moments for me. Daemon has his super-fated romance with Jaenelle, Lucivar had to procreate to screw with Daemon's head when he arrived in Kaeleer, and the first circle, who barely have personalities, shacked up with each other.

...And Saetan had a doomed relationship with Sylvia. It's true. The cool characters really don't get any love.

You find out in later books that Karla is a lesbian, which kinda annoyed me, and I'm not sure why.

But yes, Surreal needed someone, and frankly, I think the first circle should have been less pairing heavy so that characters like Surreal and Saetan/Sylvia, which, by the way, broke my fucking heart, could have a happy ending.

Wow, I must have sped-read right over Karla being a confirmed lesbian. Was that in the latest book or Dreams Made Flesh? I'm kind of annoyed by that too, but only because I think we could have done with more being shown that. We could use some more healthy gay in that canon.

Saetan and Sylvia was heart-wrenching. I kept crying at the book: "No, Saetan, you fool, I don't think she'd care! This is so not necessary! Damn you! You can still live happily ever after in your imposing castle!" And then he's left all alone in the empty and barren wastelands of Hell, and I just cry. Dammit, if Leland and Philip can hook up and love each other for the rest of their lives, whathaveyou, then so can Saetan and Sylvia! And this will bloom into a fully-formed rant soon, so...cutting it here. (And on one hand, I did get annoyed at Saetan for that decision because it wasn't like he even asked her opinion on the matter. He just decided what was best for her and cut it off.)

I can't remember if they explicitly stated it in dreams made flesh or if it was just something that was strongly, strongly implied.

Anyway, it broke me, Sylvia and Saetan's relationship. I was like, 'why, Bishop? Why did you let him have sex and fall in love if it's just going to end like this?' *wails*

So very agreed. He gets Cassandra, who was afraid of his power and they fell out of love, Hekatah, the evil, gold-digging bitch who killed his third child in a ploy for more money, and finally falls in love with Sylvia...and then their relationship is doomed. *mourns*

(The only thing I remember about Karla's sexuality is Lucivar saying: "She's not interested in men in that way," meaning that she isn't sexually interested in men. I figured the comment could go both ways, asexual or lesbian. God, now I'm going to have to read Dreams Made Flesh again and try and catch every hidden bit of innuendo in that Lucivar/Karla sex scene. Which is fine, because it is yet another amusing case of Lucivar equating everything in his life to a battleground.)

(Whoops, replied to thread instead of comment.)

*nods*

Saeton really deserved happiness that he never got.
