gacked from [profile] rachelthedemon:

Name a character from one of my fandoms and I'll give you either (a) three facts about them from my personal canon/fanon, (b) a reason he/she sucks, (c) a reason she/he is awesomecakes, (d) three things that never happened to that character or (e) three people that character never fell in love with and why. You pick the character. I pick the letter.

My personal theory (which I like a lot more than I think is actually true) is that Sakura’s parents are low level chunnin that never rose above mediocrity but were passionately (and nauseatingly) in love. They were married a few years before she was born. She was an accident, and has never really risen above that in terms of how she got along with her parents. It’s not that they don’t love her, or treat her well, but she’s superfluous. They have a much closer relationship with each other than with her. This is why she has always outsourced for emotional security.

My other theory is that neither of her parents are shinobi. She only became one to keep up with Ino, but it’s something that drove a wedge between her parents and her. Quite what that wedge consists of I’ve never gotten around to thinking about…

One thing I’m pretty sure of though is that Sakura was an only child for the majority of her life. This shows up with how she initially treats Naruto and Sasuke. If she had siblings she would have been able to cope with them better. Especially Naruto. I wouldn’t rule out her having a really young or old sibling though, but essentially never having to interact with them. A younger –baby- sibling would almost explain the distance between her and her parents, you know, the whole shifting attention to the new baby thing, but I have the sense that her distance with her parents isn’t a new thing.

In all honesty I don’t think Kishimoto ever really built them as characters, so it’s all basically fanon, which is something of a double edged sword.

Interesting. Whatever the details are, I do think it's clear that you are dead on the money about Sakura outsourcing for emotional security, and i would be SHOCKED if she wasn't an only child.

I personally go for the parents are not ninja theory, and actually think it was at the academy that she met Ino. Of all team 7, I think Sakura is the only gennin who became a ninja to serve Konoha, and not for the recognition or pursuit of revenge.
