I presume you're reading Small Favor? aka the book that proved to me that Kain and Ivy are in my top three character slot?

...But you have Murphy being classic shounan hero and beating up the bad guys when her love interest can't. How awesome was that?

Yup, reading Small Favor (still at that point, actually...you can only read so much in HC format that size in one day.) And that's normal for Murphy!

If you like Ivy, though, you really might want to check out the Black Cat manga. (I've been sternly warned off the anime, as they apparently make 2 of the male characters not-nice, remove the fact that the main adult female has a life independent of the guys, and completely change the main character's backstory and relationship with the other characters.) Anyway, the main female character is a little girl named Eve who's a cloned killing machine who joins the 2 main guys after they save her from her programming. She's very stoic and sarcasstic, and is a badass and bibliophile, and she will hurt you very very badly if you mess with her big bad bounty hunters.

I shall now also mention that the main adult female, Rinslet (actually probably my favorite character in the series) is an unrepentant thief, which the boys have no issue with (and secretly like) and they need her help as much as she needs theiers. And there's an assassin who is madly in love with her, but he ruined his chances with her forever because when he went to hire her for his organization, he deliberate messed up her heist. When he told her in the car, she pulled over and made him get out, so she could give the slap the proper force and attention. He also had the gall not to let her know he survived a battle for weeks, and got ounched in the face when he showed up with flowers and no explanation.
