This post had made me DESPERATELY craving some good arranged marriage books/fanfic.

AND SPEAKING OF TRASHY ROMANCE, I just sneakily snagged a free book today. The SOLD moment came when it said something about the heroine being into her brother (who was raised apart from her) and there's something about a cosmetics company and being forced to work together? Further bulletins as events warrant.

In other smutty news, I just banged out 1,000 words of Knave/Alice. It was a madcap race to get through the plot threads I had to snip to facilitate the banging.

I was reading tv tropes' page on Defrosting The Ice Queen, which (unsurprisingly, as it's often a subset of ruthless girl/emotional open guy) is a trope I really enjoy. Whoever wrote that entry really nailed the ways it functions as wish fulfillment in two different directions:

More emotionally open character: "He/She doesn't hate me, she's just waiting for me to prove my love is true."

Or

Ice Queen: "A warm and caring love interest will fall in love with me and bring me fulfillment and happiness."

(I edited the above to be more gender inclusive.)

I have really been craving jealousy-fic recently. Does anyone have any recommendations? (Fanfic or fiction, either works.)

I blush to admit it, but I seriously love fics with an element of jealousy, especially when combined with a side of pining. I love it when Character A doesn't realize he/she is in love with Character B until they start dating someone else, I love it when Character A knows that there isn't any reason to be jealous or they're being irrational but can't stop, I love it when Character A gets handsy and possessive in a situation where they don't totally have the right to*.

*If this is combined with fake!dating or fake!married it's EVEN BETTER. 'How dare character Y touch my pretend!spouse! Even though I am not actually married, I am feeling exactly as possessive and territorial as if I were. I'm not going to reflect to hard on that; instead I'll just glare and/or pointedly touch my fake!spouse.'

This week is fucking fired. Seriously, I am so glad that I just have a shift tomorrow left and then I swear to god, I am going to spent Saturday curled up under the covers. And then go watch Man of Steel with awesome people.

Work had been endless and dull and my headspace has been totally grey.

In an attempt to cheer myself up, I've been thinking a lot about the friends-to-lovers trope and specifically, the tipping point moment, when the couple can no longer be (or pretend to be) "just friends."

So I'd love to hear people's friends-to-lovers recs! Or we could just chat about our

(For my part, I'd suggest everyone read Making It, based off Jenny Crusie's Faking It.)

  • bare feet

  • a lady wearing the shirt that belongs to her lover

  • making sure your love interest is eating regularly

  • accompanying your love interest on a revenge quest

  • going into battle with your love interest

  • banter

  • 'I'm so upset that I need to have sex with you right now... but don't think that I have romantic feelings for you, because I don't.'

  • mutually unrequited relationships

  • "...you think a Princess and a guy like me..." (BIG YES.)

  • up-against-the-wall sex (bonus points if this takes place in an ally)

  • saying 'I love you' without actually saying 'I love you.' ("I owe him a debt." "I have a new dream/you are my new dream." "As you wish.")

  • forehead kisses

Trope Meme:

Comment with a trope and I’ll give you my opinions on it. You can ask questions (as vague or specific as you like!), talk about examples, etc, etc. Then I’ll ask you about a trope.

And while we're on the subject of tropes, can I just say.... okay, look, I know that 'healing cock' gets a lot of dissing, and I understand why, BUT to be honest, I felt the sex is often pretty pivotal to my enjoyment of hurt/comfort (which I love). Like, after the hurt, I really do want to see boning, or some sexually laden act 90% of the time.

For example, I was reading this pretty decent Clint/Darcy fic in which Darcy had past emotional trauma and I was getting super into it, and there was this total slow burn thing going on, and Darcy was trusting Clint more and more, and Clint was being super-patient and expressing his lust and affection in ways make Darcy feel safe and then.... they hold hands. The end. And I was like, 'BUT WHAT ABOUT THE BONING?'

I've recced The Goat's Back before (Steve Rogers, gen, hurt/comfort) and while that fic is amazing, there was a voice in my head that shrieked, at several points, Natasha Romanoff, get on that. (That being Steve.)

When I am finished with this #$#(Q YA urban fantasy novel, I am going to write something with a Fille Femme and I Have You Now My Pretty and No Mr Bond I Expect You To Dine and every time I have a plot problem I am going to throw dead bodies and sex scenes at it until it goes away.

Sharing is Caring:
For one week, recommend / share:

Day 1: a song
Day 2: a picture
Day 3: a book/ebook/fanfic
Day 4: a site
Day 5: a youtube clip
Day 6: a quote
Day 7: whatever tickles your fancy

Mwa-ha-ha-ha! Mine is an evil laugh! Mwaha-ha-ha!

Also, there's this: how to look like a twilight vampire.

What's really bizarre about this week's xkcd?

I just went to tvtropes this evening. Five tabs, one webcomic and counting.

Do you think Logan and Veronica of Veronica Mars qualify as a Takahashi Couple?

I vote yes but I want to hear your thoughts before I edit the page.

Hold The Line: seriously, only video game examples? What the hell? Wasn't there even sort-of one in LoTR?

Rule 34: I could go for some Anne of Green Gables porn. I mean, from the movies and my head, Gilbert was fine. And we all know redheads are hot like burning.

Does anyone have any examples for the Boring But Practical that aren't from video games or real life?

Also, can someone explain this joke?

So, I'm surfing tvtropes.org, as one does whenever one shouldn't, and I'm reading about macguffins, since mzminola and I were talking about how Mytho is one. (Actually, a lot of main character function as a macguffin for me on a subjective level, where I'm watching a show from the secondary characters and the lead is simply how all the secondary characters end up interacting. See Avatar, Naruto, Bleach.)

So I get to Chekhov's Gun, which lists Tsunade's necklace as an example.

....HOW?

The history behind her necklace is told right up front and it's (iirc) never used for plot purposes later on. I can see it as an example of a Memento Mac Guffin, but a Chekhov's Gun? Not so much.

This is hilariously true:

In 2008, redbrunja resolves to...
Connect with my inner sabriel.
Cut down to ten rants a day.
Go hellsing three times a week.
Put fifty neurotic writers a month into my savings account.
Take evening classes in sumire.
Ask my boss for a kyoshi.
Get your own New Year's Resolutions:

Also, I was trolling around on tv tropes (damn you, [livejournal.com profile] fairest1 !) and was wondering what you would call that think Sanzo did where you TRY to go crazy and kill people because you precious person got injured, but fail.

Also I tried searching for the straight version of this (precious person is harmed: massacre ensues) via looking through the Saiyuki and Naruto pages, but couldn't find it.

Also, does Tsunade quality as a vain sorceress? I say no. While she fits the letter of the definition, I don't think she has the spirit: she never mentions her youth, she is never shown being overtly sexual (beyond what is impossible to avoid with those breasts), and she isn't threatened by other, younger woman (if she was, she wouldn't have trained two that we know of).

I just had an hour and a half nap and Connecticut has legalized gay marriage. (Are those two items in the wrong order?)

It's a good day.

(Also, [livejournal.com profile] the_sun_is_up  pointed me towards this wiki page. I feel this is the time to admit that I sometimes read Sakura/Deidara fics in the hopes that the author will do something really, really hot with his hands. Most of the time, they don't. *is sad*)

From tv.tropes:

"Tsunade in Naruto can not only deliver an armour piercing slap but an earth shattering kick. Such is her incredible strength that the beat the titular character with one finger. Her student, Sakura, is following in her footsteps and Tsunade herself has commented that she could become stronger then her.
What's scary? Is that her Armor Piercing Slap is tied to her ability to increase her NORMAL attack strength."

I have no idea where they got this fact, but I just want to say: Fuck, yes. If you watch Sakura, when she is breaking down walls and punching through mountains, her posture is fucking excellent. You get hit by someone with form like that, it's going to fucking hurt.

I have no doubt, that in a straight hand to hand fight, she could beat just about anyone sans Lee or Gai, without using a smidge of chakra.

Pay attention, fanfic writers.

(Okay, it was just that fanfic that one time, but it bugged me then, and it retroactively bugs me a hella lot having seen Sakura post-timeskip.)

Also, I don't know if I mentioned it before, but I will love tvtropes.com forever for having the header quote for both "Badass Normal" and "Action Girl" be this fabulous quote by the fabulous Karrin Murphey:

"I put on the boots and kicked some monster ass. I dropped the ghoul, and I'm the one who rammed a chainsaw through the head of that plant monster thing. Crippled the ogre too. What did you do? You threw a can of Sterno at him. That's barely an assist."

-Detective Lieutenant Karrin Murphy, The Dresden Files.

....Except some jerk totally changed the quote on badass normal to something someone I don't care about said. *annoyed face*

If you want to play, comment here, and I will assign you three random(-ish) tropes from the TV Tropes Wiki. Pick one, and either:

A) Write a story based on that trope -- any fandom or pairing you want, no minimum length, just have fun with it.

or

B) Write meta about that trope (in general or in a particular fandom).

Post your story or meta to your own journal, or wherever else you want. Comment here with a link to what you've written.

Step right up and get your tropes here!
