You know, for any other character, I would say dressing up as THE MOST WANTED CRIMINALS POSSIBLE would be a bad idea, but since it's Sasuke, I'm sure no harm or consequences will befall.

Also, I have the feeling that the guy who is with them to keep himself under control (who I actually really, really like, because I'm a sucker for the beast/gentleman dichotomy) is going to get so, so fucked over.

Okay, am I correct in assuming that Jiraiya's note said nothing? Or did I miss something with had actual content? I liked it better when it was talking about Tsunade's boobs. Those are actually interesting.

Also, I'm sensing a disturbance in the force: a horrifically long and boring training montage! I can't imagine how excruciating they must be when you have to actually read one chapter a week and can't skim through it in under five minutes.

Well, A) rank and file shinobi probably don’t know red clouds mean Akatsuki, or even that Akatsuki exists, B) Would you mess with one of the strongest shinobi groups out there? And C) why would the rest of the villages try and stop them? It was already stated that the villages of two of the Jinchouriki (or however that’s spelled) didn’t raise a finger to defend them, and why would they? The tailed beasts are for all intents and purposes like keeping a rabid animal in your backyard.

Hmm… what gives you that feeling? Mostly I’m just getting a ‘meh’ vibe from all of team Hebi. Besides serving as secondary battle fodder against Konoha, I really don’t know where Kishimoto is going with them.

Basically the general theory consensus is that they tried to decode the wrong book of Jirayai’s and that’s why it came out nonsense. At some point in the future they’ll realize this and find the right book. Probably the first one he wrote, the one Naruto was named after. The other main theory is that it will somehow correspond to something they discover in the autopsy.

It’s like a thousand voices called out in pain… but actually I don’t think it’ll be that bad. I usually don’t mind training montages as long as the move along at a fair clip, and actually reveal new things. The last training arc (the elements one which was a pretty huge reveal) managed to both rather nicely. *fingers crossed*

I just feel like Sasuke is digging his grave deeper, and I don't see the logic of his moves. And I do think that most shinobi know what the red clouds mean - you see that all the guards at Suna had been told to watch for them, and I bet that is the kind of news that spreads fast.

The fact that placing your mental and emotional stability in the hands of a man who has, what, six generations of fratricide and best-friend-killing, who DID kill his brother and almost killed his best friend, after knocking out the girl he (debatably) cares about is not the best person to cling to. I actually really want to see him and Sakura interact - or maybe see his psychosis switch to her, because I think Sakura with a pet polite pyscho would be win.

I've found the training montages to be the most dull parts of the Naruto manga, and personally, that last training arc with the elements made no sense to me, and as soon as Kakashi started talking about things I was interested in (genjutsu, medic-nins,) he stopped.

Oh, I definitely think Sasuke’s digging himself a grave. Just not ‘cause he’s wearing the Akatsuki colors.

Thing is, only someone who has the afore mentioned credentials could suppress his Spiky-hair’s killer instinct. He’d just kill anyone else. All he really needs from Sasuke is to keep being an idiot. Don’t think that’s going to change anytime soon. Though the thought of him as Sakura’s personal psychopathic pet is cool.

Huh, I thought it was pretty straight forward. What about it didn’t make sense to you?
Monday, July 14th, 2008 01:00 am (UTC)
No, the Akatsuki colors are definitively the cherry on the cake.

Well, keep in mind that I read this during the 100+ chapters in one day binge, and have never had much patience for the training chapters, but as I recall it.... Well, first, the ninjutus that we've seen come across more like magic than elemental manipulation to me, so I'm resistant to the sudden introduction of jutus being controlled via elemental manipulation. Second, the ranking didn't make much sense to me. I can't recall what the precise details were, except lightning> earth, which, seriously? In all situations? What about how ground, you know, grounds lightning?

Basically, I just felt like it was thrown together without Kishimoto thinking about it too hard, and then explained in a deliberately round about way.
Monday, July 14th, 2008 03:28 am (UTC)
Oh, that would explain it. But… A) Not all ninjutsu is elemental based, B) its still magical, it can simply be somewhat quantified, C) it has a lot more to do with power levels than it does element. Strong earth would be able to defeat medium lightning, even though lightning is better against earth. It’s more a tie breaker thing.

*nods*

Okay, would you mind explaining something, if you remember? What is the order of the elements? Like, if lighting of the same power as earth trumps earth, how does the rest of the elements go?
Monday, July 14th, 2008 03:06 pm (UTC)
Sure. Let’s see if I can remember…. Fire > Wind > Lightning > Earth > Water > Back to fire. There’s also something, (I think. My memory is fuzzy) about certain elements actually strengthening others. Like wind strengthens flame techniques, which is why the Uchiha sigil is a fan. Where the special two element combinations (Like Yamato’s wood element) fall in the cycle hasn’t really been explained yet. .

Hope that clears it up

Thank's that's actually really helpful.

If I was you, I wouldn't worry too much about the training montage. Kishimoto doesn't have that much time to play with before Pain and his lot attack so I doubt that he's going to dedicate too many chapters to the training.

The note said : "The real one is not with them." Is that what you saw - because only the Binktopia/Mangashare versions had that?

Of course, nothing's going to happen to Sasuke now that he has his new atomic Sharingan that can mess you up with just one eye.

I thought Juugo's comment strange actually - it seemed so out of place next to what Karin and Suigetsu said. It could be a sign.

atomic Sharingan

You have no idea how disappointed I was when that shit failed to shoot deathrays.

Are we reading the same manga? Kishimoto is NOTORIOUS for doing long, long training montages. And when you have a week to learn something, you don't need to spend a chapter each day, you know?

It did, a little. I was responding to the fact that placing your mental and emotional stability in the hands of a man who has, what, six generations of fratricide and best-friend-killing, who DID kill his brother and almost killed his best friend, after knocking out the girl he (debatably) cares about is not the best person to cling to.

Ahaha, yeah, I sort of headdesked at that. But hey, on the other hand, at least it covers up Sasuke's godawful pornstar outfit.

As far as they can tell, it's meaningless. Which probably means they interpreted it wrong. They seemed to be making rather arbitrary and ungrounded decisions in the codebreaking process.

Oh, good point. Silver lining in everything.

I've heard that it means "The real one is not with them," which I'm quite sure wasn't in the scanlation that I read, so I think either other people had better translators, or... *shrugs*

Jeraiya must have a freaking good memory to remember the first syllable or word on random pages of his book. I never had the impression he had a photographic memory and could come up wiht that stuff on the fly. Tsunade's measurements make a lot more sense.
Sunday, July 13th, 2008 06:32 am (UTC)
I've had that thought too. Jiraiya doesn't seem like the type to remember trivia like that - Tsunade's boobs, kinds of booze, women's phone numbers, various sexual positions... those he could remember. Every word on every page of his work? Not so believe (it!) able.
