I mentioned in the car ride yesterday, how utterly glad I am that I got into Naruto. If Avatar is the sweet, awesome boyfriend that didn't quite end well, Naruto is the rebound guy who you kinda hate but hook up with because the sex is hot and violent.

And then I have my happy, shippy, 'OMG they're totally made for each other' Sakura/Kakashi place.

....And it's a damn, damn good thing that I'm here because I hate it, if you know what I'm saying:

Wow, that goodbye gesture Sakura's making looks really, damn obscene.

Goddamn long training montage that has Naruto stealing Sakura's type of attacks.

Fuck you, Kishimoto.

Oh, please do bring up things from way back! I loved the moment as well. It was one of the few places where Sakura gets to shine, and I love it. If Sakura had had a different team and I different teacher, I have no doubt she would have been the teacher beloved student and the pride of the team.

First of all, guard duty = boring. I think training would have distracted her from watching, and you're not supposed to be doing anything besides looking around when you're guarding something like that.

That said, I read it as Kishimoto doing the same thing he always does with Sakura - sidelines her to focus on the males.

As for Kakashi - I love him dearly, but I think he was a bad teacher for ALL of them.

I think that's how you ruin gifted students--you praise them for getting ahead of everyone else, then you let them slack off in the back of the classroom until the bell rings. Kakashi was effectively teaching her to give the minimum effort, then sit around being bored.

Well said. With the additional comment that Kakaishi is not a driven teacher, and would not hunt around for things to teach her while he has Sasuke to focus on. Hell, can you imagine what would have happened if Kakashi had said to Sakura, even once, 'I bet Sasuke would be most impressed by ninja skills?'

He was a bad teacher for Sasuke because he saw too much of himself in the Uchiha, and assumed (incorrectly) that Sasuke would make choices in a way he didn't. He didn't think Naruto really had potential until later and ignored him.

Naruto only learned so much during that time (imho) because had had Sasuke to strive to beat.

So, in that particular bridge instance, I think Sakura was just waiting around being bored.

IN GENERAL, however, I think she spends more of her time learning. Remember about how well she did at the written exam? And how well she did at hand to hand and classic ninja skills against Ino?

However, I think Sakura feel prey to the classic 'study what you're good at', so she didn't get a balanced education, until Tsunade took her aside and trained her. I'm sure post timeskip Sakura has a much more well rounded set of ninja skills, and more importantly, knows what she needs to practice.

To bring this back to Kakashi/Sakura, the things that make them TOTALLY FAIL as a student and teacher would make them work well as a team. For example, you have someone trained as a hunter paired with someone trained in evasion and someone who's most powerful attacks leave them physically debilitated paired with a medic-nin.

And I really hope you check back, since you posted anonymously. This is a fun conversation to have. ^_^
