So, I saw Mama Mia last night with my mother, which was a lot of fun, if a little too long. It was one of those movies where it's TOTALLY over the top, but everyone knows it, so they're just having a blast being as over the top as they can manage.

But I just have to say, ONLY in a hollywood musical could you have three possibilities for a father, and have a sixty-six percent chance of getting Colin Firth or Pierce Brosnen.

Books have been disappointing me lately.

I don't read the Twilight series, but [livejournal.com profile] renegadekitsune has been giving me the... lowlights, and what I would like to read isthe epicly fucked romance between a werewolf and the infant/toddler that he imprinted on, and then there would be this whole issue of choice, like, 'what if I DON'T want to be with you just because biology/magic is saying I should,' and there could be all this angst around lusting/know you're going to have sex with someone you're in the process of watching grow up.'

I think the moral here is I need to reread Daughter of The Blood.

In other news, it's time to stop buying the Rachel Marianna Morgan books in hardcover. Now, I've always loved Rachel, because she's a fantastic heroine, the series has my first lesbian OTP, and for the first five books, it was about her dealing with the various factions in her life that wanted to kill her and I assumed it would continue in that vein until she finally finds a way to let Ivy keep her soul and Rachel settles down with either Ivy OR Trent.

Now?

I'm 200 pages into a 400 page book, and I can read the writing on the wall. So far, it's just her angsting over Kristin (who I never liked that much) and the whole Marshal subplot should have been axed. I was so happy when I thought Ceri had gotten knocked up by Trent, because then you were reducing the romantic potentials, but no.

And we're not actually doing anything with Ceri's pregnancy, or Kinsley's identity, or Al, or Nick (who I would love to see return again, simply because the pwnage would be epic). No, we're going on boring, boring, not-dates with rebound guy Marshal.

It's looking like the ending is going to be a menage a pick-a-number, and for me? Nothing is less sexy. Also, I really hate when everyone is cool with that idea, even when it would be more logical that they wouldn't be.

Remember when, about two books ago, Kinsley was like, 'you know, lesbianism has always struck me a wrong, but I really respect and like you and Ivy, and I can see you care about each other, so I hope you're happy together.' Do you remember how awesome that was?

Rachel's mom being all, 'oh, it's clear that Ivy's your soul mate, but things are screwy, so you may need more people to make a complete relationship?' Crazy, unsexy talk.

That said?

Rachel Marianna Morgan > Anita Blake to infinity.
