Merry Christmas Flist!

I hope you all have a great day and get awesome swag.

I just snuck out of bed to get cookies and took a peek at my stocking and I have the feeling I'm going to be getting a VERY nice calender for the new year.

This Christmas Eve was actually shockingly low key - my mother and I went to the gym and went grocery shopping and it's looking like we're going to spend a chuck of time just getting the house organized and cleaned. Oh- and we had this nice religious discussion and then actually went to church this evening because mom loves the carols and I, you know, didn't burst into flames as I walked it. (Mom commented after a couple people wished us "Merry Christmas" that "it's okay to say that here" referring to a woman who got fired from Walmart for wishing someone a merry Christmas).

Still, I'm feeling pretty damn cheerful about it all. I was wondering why this Christmas feels so much different and better than last Christmas and I realized I'm not jet-lagged out of my mind.

Amazing how that changes things.

So I'm Thinking About Deidara & His Mouths, As One Tends To Do...

And I realized something.

I don't ship Konan/Pain.

I know!

I feel like such a traitor to my flist. But after coming across this great smutty drabble meme for that pairing and being rather meh about it even though the writing was top-notch, it could no longer be denied.

I was pondering why this was so, and I realized that this short version is this:

They don't fight.

Now, I've liked some enemy ships (Hakkai x Yaone, Katara x Zuko) and I've liked some comrades in arms (Sai x Sakura, Maka x Soul) and  I've liked some best friends (*crickets chirp* ....Naruto x Sakura?) and I've liked some canon (Sabriel x Touchstone) and some fanon (Kusanagi/Batou). But what is similar about all of these widely different pairings is that I can imagine them all arguing. Whether the fights would be physical or verbal or quiet or loud, I can see all of these characters standing on different sides of a line and refusing to budge.

I can't see that with Pain and Konan.

How this relates to Deidara (and his mouths) is that I was having a conversation about joining the Ataksuki and Deidara (and his mouths) came up and I was thinking about how I enjoy reading Sakura x Deidara for the potential in Deidara (and his mouths) even though I don't buy that pairing 99.9% of the time, even if I'll enjoy reading a particular fic.

So I thought, 'self, what is a pairing with Deidara (and his mouths) that you would enjoy reading and find more believable?'

And it hit me, that we know Konan and Deidara were familiar with each other, considering they're part of the same plot to destroy the world, and Konan's hot, and Deidara's Deidara, and I realized that the world needs more Konan/Deidara.

Like, I've seen one great fic where they were interacting in a very maternal way and it was awesome and I think it would be just as awesome if that dynamic was tweaked a bit to take more advantage of Deidara (and his mouths).
