redbrunja: (I'm A Free Bitch Baby)

Okay, so this has happened to me about three times now, and it's getting really annoying.

The situation is thus: I write a check to a male of the species. MONTHS LATER male in question is like 'so... you know that check you wrote me? I cashed it/was about to cash it/was thinking about cashing it.... is that going to be a problem for you?" all tentative like.

I always just go, 'yeah, it fine,' but honestly I really freaking annoys me on several levels.

First, I would not write you a check if I could not cover it. I know you think you're being nice, but part of me finds it really insulting.

Second, when people DON'T cash checks that I write, it makes my life harder. Because I actually keep track of and reconcile every check I write. (Which means that cashing a check won't screw up my checkbook... but waiting to cash a check for so long that I go to a new register and forget about that one uncleared check and eventually decide to correct my checkbook to match what the banks says I have and THEN cashing you check will cause me much pain in my ass.)

In a similar vein of people doing things that make me want to slap them:

As many of you may know Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (aka Lady Gaga) is a Julliard-trained pianist.

I have actually seen this leveled as a critique of her, as in, 'If she could play the piano in the manner of Nora Jones or Vanessa Carlton, what is wrong with her that she doesn't?'

This pisses me off so much. Now, I am not saying that you have to like Lady Gaga or that you can't prefer music that songs like Jones or Carlton or wish that you didn't have to hear 'Poker Face' 10,000 times in the course of one day.

However, respect that fact that Lady Gaga clearly made a choice about what her music was going to sound like, and regardless of whether that decision was a strictly artistic or strictly commercial (or a combination of both), the fact that she has the chops of a Julliard-trained pianist makes her more awesome, not less, regardless of your personal feeling about her or her music.

If you're going to whine about Gaga, pick something legitimate to whine about.
