Okay, a podcast I was listening to did this and it seemed like fun- here follows the 5 top-played songs on my iTunes:

(Note: apparently iTunes don't count a song as play unless I listened to it all the way to the very end; fyi, this HUGELY throws off the accuracy of my play count. A better gauge would if it counted songs that I listened to 75% of.)

I am facing six straight hours of data entry (I'm entering insurance write-offs). If there is anything you want me to ramble about (real life or fandom), pairings you want to hear me discuss, tropes you want to know my opinion on, now is the time to shout out.

Randomly, why does pandora.com fucking hate me? I've listened to several of my fav stations so long they've mutated (my Florence + The Machine and Cosmic Love stations have both stopped playing Florence + The Machine, to give you an idea) and stopped playing songs I like and I haven't been able to find a good seed song.

Also randomly, I really wish LJ was perky enough to have a friending meme running. I wish LJ was perky enough that I didn't NEED a friending meme to get new people on my flist. I wish LJ was perky enough that the people currently on my flist posted more. Le sigh.

empressearwig posted a question meme in the hopes of perking up LJ, and that is a call to battle I will never walk away from.

If you want to play, answer the questions below, switching out and adding new questions as desired.

1. Are you a shower in the morning or at night person?

Both. Definitely in the morning, and if I had a hard day at work or went running after work, it's definitely time for another shower.

2. For what television series are you completely satisfied with the amount of canon that aired?

Wonderfalls. That show has a beginning, middle, end, had several romances that developed and ended in interesting and/or satisfying places, and told a complete story in its thirteen episodes.

3. Newest musical discovery.

4. Do you have certain things you wear everyday?

Like a signature piece of jewelry? Nope. I'm not that classy

5. Favorite fanfiction tropes.

Roadtrip fic, sex before love, pretending to be a couple, mistaken for a couple.

6. If I came to visit you, what thing in your city would I absolutely need to see/do before I left?

I live in Seattle, and I'd take you for a stroll around Pike Place and then up to the Space Needle. Yes, it's super-over priced (like WHOA) but if you're not from Washington, and you're unlikely to be in Seattle soon.... why not.

7. What's the worst job you've ever had?

Either when I was working in a ice cream parlor (hipster ice cream, not great boss, coworkers who didn't like me) or my post-college data entry job.

8. What did you do at recess in elementary school?

Got teased. Read.

9. Do you have a preferred highlighter color?

I am a fan of blue, but that's 'cause I like blue. Realistically, the classic yellow is my go-to. (Especially as it doesn't show up on copies.)

10. What was the first instant messaging program you ever used?

AOL! The one and only messaging program I used.

11. Oldest and newest icon.

[livejournal.com profile] backtothesea asked me...

So, we did an awesome presentation on Neon Genesis Evangelion back in the day and you put together AMAZING meta questions. I'd love to hear any questions or subjects that you'd love to discuss in an academic setting. Could be for a specific fandom or just about fandom in general.

You know Katy Perry*’s California Gurls video?

I would fucking love to have had the excuse to write about this one.

First of all, I find this video completely hilarious. Secondly, I am 100% sure that there is something very interesting to say about the song’s weaponization of femininity (the boob-whipcream-guns, oh my god). I don’t know what that something is, but I know it’s there. I feel like if I were forced to write and essay about this music video, I'd figure something about it out, or even get my own reading straight in my head.

*I tend not to enjoy Katy Perry's music, but I will listen to California Gurrls every time it comes on the radio.

[livejournal.com profile] qualapec asked me: Last song you listened to on repeat and why you liked it?

This one. The song is beautiful, the lyrics are vivid and poetic, and the artist look the opportunity of of making the music video to speak out against homophobia (consider this a warning for the linked video, which has non-graphic but disturbing images of violence.)

In news I can’t believe that I have an opinion about, apparently Lorde made a few digs at Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez. Even worse, I actually have an opinion about this.

re: Taylor Swift

One skinny, pretty, white girl critiquing another skinny, pretty, white girl for promoting an unattainable standard of beauty strikes me as some grade A bullshit, personally. ESPECIALLY because what Taylor Swift does that is really damaging (imho) is promoting this girl versus girl, virgin versus whore ideology.

re: Selena Gomez

I fucking love Come and Get It. It’s a great song! It’s about a girl telling someone else that she’s in the mood for sex and when he/she ALSO CHOOSES to have sex, the narrator is game. How is that anti-feminist? If anything, I think it’s very interesting to position the (presumed) male as the person who’s not ready or is waiting.

Plus, at the moment Selena Gomez seems to have weathered the Disney child star gauntlet very well (so far, keep up the good work Ms. Gomez), and makes super-cute music videos like this:

Cue Jason Todd feelings.

And then cue EVEN MORE Jason Todd feelings:

I was literally waving my hands at the screen due to an excess of feelings.

This is me, when two of my preset radio stations are playing Thick’s Blurred Lines at the same time:

On that subject, radio has been giving me NO LOVE and I have been having trouble finding new music.

Anyone have any recommendations? (And by new, I mean, new to me. Feel free to recommend songs released years and years ago.)

Help, I’m trying to find a song. I believe it’s a fairly new release, I heard it on 107.7 The End (but didn’t check their website in time to get the artist or title), and the only thing I can really remember is that there were some lyrics that made me go ‘wow, those are some really atheist lyrics.’

Anyone have any ideas?

Also, tumblr keeps telling me that there is a music video where it looks like Nicki Minaj goes down on a girl. Anyone know what music video that is?

I wish I could ban tumblr from using 30 Seconds To Mars' This Is War lyrics on graphics. It's overdone, not that great of a song in the first place, and I pretty much universally hate which character they choose to put under the label 'victim.'

I am thrilled that this song/version of these vocals exists (it's a variation of the female vocals from Macklemore's Same Love).

My first introduction to Gillian Welch was hearing “One More Dollar” in a folk music class I was taking. At the time, I assumed that Gillian Welch was LITERALLY a depression era singer.

Then I heard an interview with her on NPR and my first thought was, ‘wow, this recording from the ‘30s has really good sound quality.’ It was only after about ten minutes of the interview that the penny dropped.

This has been a random anecdote from [livejournal.com profile] redbrunja.
