Not often do I literally laugh out loud reading a fic. dollsome 's "I Tried To Be Chill (But You're So Hot I Melted)" (Community, Jeff/Annie) had me worried that I was going to wake up my mother.
Selected quotes:
"—the massive, searing, never-ending, super-eternal awkward silence that swallows the whole study room like Jeff wishes he could swallow like five Advil because he knows what that feeling is in his temples. It is a stress headache. Annie taught him that. Right before she took down her hair and took off her pink sweater and became suddenly, inconveniently, age-inappropriately hot. The fact that he remembers what color her sweater was: alarming"
"Jeff looks like he’s trying to do an impression of himself: he’s slouched in his chair, his standard I’m-bored-and-great-but-just-because-I’m-bored-by-how-great-I-am-doesn’t-mean-you-have-to-be expression there, but not quite right. Somehow, he’s gotten ahold of her retractable eraser and he’s drumming it on the table in a beat that starts out slow and steady, turns manic, realizes it’s manic, and goes back to slow and steady again. This happens five times."
There is so much to love about this fic but the way the author breaks pov conventions and how clearly both Jeff and Annie's unique voices duet with each other are hight on my list.
