Okay, when this fannish5 showed up on my flist last friday, I almost laughed it was so perfect. Because to be honest, one of my huge pet peeves is shows that don't know when to end or have cop-out endings.
Five least satisfying conclusions (end of a tv series, movie, book - any media.)
1.) Alias. This show dragged on way too long (Vaughn's not Vaughn! Vaughn's dead!) and clung to elements that didn't serve the story (asking me to believe that Sloane could flip-flop like he did and yet avoid getting a bullet from Jack is just too much).
2.) Avatar. First of all, I was never going to love Katara/Aang. It's just not the kind of pairing that I enjoy. That said, I was fine with it being endgame until the last three episodes, when the writers tossed in drama that was never resolved and Zuko/Katara ship-teases for the sole purpose of making me hurt. And then Aang got to win without losing anything or going against his moral code or getting his lily-white hands dirty. I'M ONLY A LITTLE BITTER, OKAY?
3.) Battlestar Galactica. The first half of the finale is pretty damn awesome. AND THEN HUMANITY DIES FOR ABOUT A BILLION TREATABLE DISEASES AND GUESS WHAT, THE WHOLE SERIES IS POINTLESS, LOLZ, robot dancing.
4.) True Grit. That epilogue was of no use at all and detrimental to my enjoyment of the film.
5.) The Sarah Conner Chronicles. Unlike the previous four entries, I think the last episode of TSCC is amazing but it also leaves me positively desperate to find out what happens next, which is a cruel and unsatisfying place to be left at the end of a show's run. Damn you, Fox!
And in an effort to be less bitchy, some shows that have done an AMAZING job with their finales (even if those finales are open-ended): Dark Angel, Dollhouse, Firefly (the end of the series, NOT the movie), Hellsing (manga, not anime), Legend of the Seeker, The Middleman, and Wonderfalls.
