Just got massively spoiled for TTGL (twice, in case once wasn't enough).

What I found out caused the small desire I had to finish the series vanish.

If you haven't finished that series, don't got to today's fandom secret post.

To be honest, I was never that into that show, so *shrugs* Now, if I'd been spoiled for last Exile... then I'd be pissed.

Oh, man, I hate spoilers too. I'm like, if I care at all about what's happening, I don't want to know before it does. There is just a huge loss of suspense when I know what's coming.

Lol, that was me. I managed to get the last disc to a friend's house to watch on her giant TV and I flailed the entire time. I think about every five seconds my exclamations would get louder and more enthusiastic. Of course, I was blessedly spoilerless too. :)

I got spoiled in a similar way a looong time ago, but I'd still love to see the show. Unfortunately, I only ever found one episode.

Still really sucks that you got spoiled twice, though. ):

Yeah, apparently the universe wanted to destroy any chance of me lying to myself.

Really?! Holy crap, thank you!! xD

I tried to watch that show, but it had wayyy too many underaged boob shots for my taste. I dunno if it keeps that up the whole series, but it seemed tacky. It's a shame, because I thought it looked good.

See, I don't mind the gratitious fanservice as much as the fact that TTGL was introduced to me as 'OMG!!!!111best thing ever with none of the problems you have with other series' and I'm like, 'okay, I'm amused... but you know what, this has the same problems as Black Cat and FMA.." To which people go, 'oh, no it doesn't! Even though the first four episodes look like it does, it doesn't! Continue watching!'

I honestly think I'd like it more it I hadn't had it pimped as hard as it was.

Wow, that sounds remarkably like Avatar fandom, in the worst ways!

major stuff in the show is considered not even spoilery by some people because of how widely it's known.

I understand how that happens, but it's still dumb and inconsiderate.

(TTGL fandom is kind of annoying in general because it is, unfortunately, one of those fandoms where the fans seem to think that in order to like one of the female leads, you have to hate the other. Why.)

ANNE BOLEYN AND KATHARINE OF ARAGON. I ♥ them both. Okay, on a note that's actually related, holy crap, if I had been spoiled for anything in Gurren Lagann, I would've smacked a bitch. Or whoever was closest.

*winces* Argh...I hate spoilers, too.

(For the record, though, the series actually improves hugely after the first spoilery event. It gives it some needed focus, and it was only at that point that I found myself really getting interested in the show itself, beyond just fangirling on Kamina for being awesome. (His dad was Alex Louis Armstrong and his uncle was Maito Gai, and nobody can tell me different.)

Granted, it eventually stops making any sense whatsoever, but in an awesome sort of surf-the-wave-of-glorious-wtfery way. I was spoiled for both the same events you were, and afraid it would jump the shark Death Note-style, but I ended up enjoying it hugely anyway.

('Snot likely to become a fandom for me the way Avatar and FMA were, but it was a fun and worthwhile ride. ^_^)

That is the perfect way to phrase it.

See, TTGL, for me, has always been a 'hmmm, this is okay... not something I'd seek out of my own...' and hearing that it stops making any sense later... is not a good sign for my continued interest.

No, see, that's what I thought too. There's just something...effervescently fun about the way they do it, though. It happens during the epic final battle, and since the series has always toyed with its own limits before, it ends up feeling like when you were seven years old and having a really good time playing space warriors with your friends, and just kept throwing in everything up to the kitchen sink that seemed awesome that you could think up on the spot. YOUR SPACESHIP IS SINKING! HAHA, OKAY BUT I CAN MAKE YOUR GUYS ASPLODE! OH YEAH WELL I'M GONNA THROW A GALAXY AT YOU! HEEHEE AWESOME!

Ordinarily I prefer tidy, logical worlds, but this was free-flying Jabberwocky brilliance. In space. ^_^ And I really did get a kick out of it...I don't know for sure if you will, but don't write it off too soon.

It has another six episodes. That's about how many weeks of the quarter are left, and after that, i won't be going to anime club anymore.
Tuesday, October 21st, 2008 03:58 am (UTC)
*nods* That's fair enough. If you get to episode nine or so of a series and it hasn't lit your fire yet, that's really enough time wasted, eh what? ^_^
Tuesday, October 21st, 2008 05:58 am (UTC)
Honestly, if I hadn't had about a billion people who would have lynched me + easy way to watch it, I would have dropped it already.

Hee. ^_^ I didn't want to get any more specific and spoil her even more...but yeah, by the time those last few episodes rolled out, I had thrown logic joyfully to the winds and was laughing and whooping like I was at a football game. Good times, good times.
Tuesday, October 21st, 2008 02:12 am (UTC)
Seconded that is the best description ever.

I seriously think that is impossible to explain the level of excellence that the end of the series is. It doesn't make sense in a way that makes perfect sense. If that makes...sense...
Monday, October 20th, 2008 05:02 pm (UTC)
Aaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwww, motherfucker.

*laces fingers together and looks at you with big, wibbly eyes*
Please keep watching? One of my favorite characters enters in episode 9, and there's a conventions-breaker at the end of episode 12 I'd love to talk with you about, and it just keeps getting awesomer...

And all you have to do is not leave Anime Club during the credits for Last Exile.
Tuesday, October 21st, 2008 06:13 am (UTC)
I'm giving TTGL until Winter Break, which is when I'm pretty sure I'm going to stop coming to Anime Club.
Tuesday, October 21st, 2008 06:34 am (UTC)
Hooray! That should get us to episode 9.

We'll miss you at club. Though if you do find Last Exile and Daughter of 20 Faces over Winter Break, I would like to watch them with you.
Tuesday, October 21st, 2008 06:36 am (UTC)
I have already downloaded Last Exile. We'll have a marathon this winter break.
Tuesday, October 21st, 2008 07:05 am (UTC)
Sweet!
Tuesday, October 21st, 2008 02:13 am (UTC)
That...is the worst kind of suck there is. Oh, and sorry for replying to pretty much everyone in your post, but I get so enthusiastic about this show. XD

Not a problem at all!
