I've posted my comments on Goblet of Fire over at [livejournal.com profile] hp_revisited .

So, I haven't been visiting fandom_secrets lately. Now, I assume that for a while Inception was dominated that community - is that still going on?

Judging from [livejournal.com profile] fandom_secrets, there appears to be a segment of the Merlin fandom that is both

a.) disappointed

and

b.) surprised

that the show is going to make Guinevere/Arthur canon, instead of Merlin/Arthur.

....

To which I can only ask, were you dropped on the head as a child? Did you actually think the BBC was going to change the CORE of the Arthurian legend in order to fulfill your slash fantasies? Really now. I can understand being disappointed, but don't be dumb about it. You should know that the family-centric show is not going to change an epic, classic myth to be progressive. (Not saying I don't want gays on my child-friendly programming, but that particular set of homosexuals was never going to happen.)

 Okay, so fandomsecrets has been lame lately.

So, I'll meme.

In the comments, post the text of a fake secret* - the kind of secret you'd like to see, either because you'd like to see the discussion or because it would be interesting to read or whatever.

Okay, I'll go first:

I would give my left toe if just once I was fannish about a classy, legitimately good show.

The Fandom Secrets Meme

How it works:
1. Post your username.
2. Link your friends!
3. Your friends will then either make and post fandom secrets that they think you would make, or link you to previously posted fandom secrets they think could be yours. [ETA: since I have no graphic skillz and have never made a secret, this meme will be about the former option.]

Guess mine!

If You Are Female......

...did something first....

...or did something no one else could do...

...if you are the main character and own that...

...or have a tragic past or romantic entanglements...

...or I don't think your flaws are flawed enough...

...or your book has some examples of weak writing...

Secret 118

I'm going to be her when I grow up. Way to be incredibly awesome, author.

(Also, I'm working a hell of a lot right now and my email program suddenly decided that things from livejournal count as spam. Probably because my email was going crazy a few days ago and a comment got marked as spam. So I'm off to try to fix that. Let's hope it's as easy a fix as it was a mistake. So far I've marked a whole bunch of comments as 'not spam' and unflagged the ones that were in my spam folder as well.)

Fandom Secret Post 897

Secret 101 is MADE OF FUCKING WORD. Seriously, I'm still bitter about the ending of that movie. Even if at lot of the commentators don't seem to grock why.

Secrets 106, 110, 111, 122, and 135 all pin the FAIL-meter to the floor, though.

On the subject of 135 - seriously. You really think that Rose should have given up seeing Earth's past, Earth's future, the width and breath of time and the universe itself to take care of her fucking boyfriend? Mickey was dating her, she wasn't his mother. She had NO obligation to continue dating him or give up one of the most amazing opportunities ever to continue to be Mickey's girlfriend. Lord knows I wouldn't have. Protip, kid: Don't arrange your life around the boy-man you're dating at nineteen.

I didn't even know good Kakashi cosplayers existed and then there's this guy... with those shoulders and fucking scratch marks (let me lick them comfortingly, please) and how he holds his hand and he's keeping the don't-show-the-face trope and *guh*

*fans self*

I'll be over here, writing dirtywrong porn if anyone needs me.

Fandom Secret Post 868: Secret 117

See, this is why I really have a problem with RPF because that is a real person who you're manipulating and writing about for your own pleasure and I honestly can't imagine the real actors and the people that they're in real life relationships with feeling anything but hurt and violated if they found RPF.

Poor girl.

From [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets  #857

103 - I honestly feel really, really sorry for her platonic friend. I'm not sure what she wanted in reaction to posting this - a pat on the back for not doing someone who she didn't want a relationship with? a cookie for having someone crushing on you? Regardless, fandomsecrets is SO not the right forum.

115 - ha, ha word.

I talked about 123 in my last post...

137 - oh my god this is the best idea ever! So if you start seeing secrets about how redbrunja's fics got someone through chemo or ruined them for real men.... I'll have had nothing to do with it.

143 - actually, I kinda agree. I had it when writers dig at the fandom like that. Honestly, it's one of the reasons I think the creators of a show and the fandom should be fairly separate.

152 - TROLL.

It is clearly the final month of school; I'm stressed, my to-do list needs two sticky notes to get everything on it, etc.

So if I haven't replied to your comment, it's probably because you wrote something that will take me more than two seconds to respond to; don't worry, I'll respond. Just... not right away.

~~~
Secondly, the latest fandom_secrets post was so incredibly wank-tastic and troll worthy, that it deserves it's own WTF commentary. I'm not going to go into details, except that I have something brief to say about the Sasuke/Sakura/Hinata/Naruto (not in the fun orgy way) secret, since people on my flist are already talking about it:
1.) Sasuke/Sakura and Hinata/Naruto ARE NOT correlated variables: one can happen without the other.
2.) Stepping back from the details of the pairings themselves (since I think everyon already knows my opinion on that), wouldn't it be incredibly problematic if they both happened? Doesn't that send a horrible message to both girls and boys about how girls should just endlessly pursue the object of their desire? And boys should just go 'oh, okay' regardless of who THEY want to be with, because those girls spend so much energy on them? It takes (or it SHOULD) two to tango and neither Sasuke nor Naruto has shown that they are romantically interested in Sakura and Hinata, respectively. Which leads me to point three:
3.) Kishimoto is not writing a romantic adventure manga. Arguing about which pairing will be canon at this time is pointless because Kishimoto has not given us ANYTHING CLOSE to a clear canon signal about what relationships will end up being canon (one-sided crush does not equal 'will be canon'). This is not Avatar: we don't know how Team 7's romantic lives will work out and it's actually somewhat probable with Kishimoto's emphasis on nakama that we WILL NOT get a bunch of pairings in the epilogue (please god).
~~~

Thirdly, I watched Star Trek on Sunday and it was the most awesome movie I have seen since Iron Man. Longer post to follow... sooner or later.

Fandom secret 841:

122: Right, because dropping the character with the most and most realistic character development is a good idea. As for his skill at bending? And fuck you for taking a shot at his bending. It's called working for your skills, instead of getting them god-modded to you.

159: You're still waiting to find a female character that you like because you have problems with women. YOU have problems with women. Try therapy and then talk to me. Because, I'm sorry, if in a group of women with such diverse personalities as Katara, Dax, Mulan, Buffy, and Orihime you can't like even one of them? You have epic fucking problems.

Secret Post 833:

120: I don't care what you ship, but Katara is not anyone's girl. She's her own person with her own arc. She's certainly not a fucking prize to be handed off to some boy and the fact that she was treated as such is a massive flaw in the finale. (And oh, if I may be bitchy? What does it say about your pairing that it makes more sense for her to fight next to the character who supported her through some of her best character development and NOT the child you'd like to pair her with?)

In the words of secret 111: I love this ship.

114: this secret is totally made of word, only I found it funny and was not sick and betrayed by the latest chapter.

113: Wow, massive humanity fail.

In what fucking alternative universe is Soul TOO GOOD for Maka?

Now, I'm not saying she's better than him, because he's pretty damn cool, but Maka has scaled and claimed Mt Awesome for all badass shonen chicks everywhere.

Okay, so, while I have fallen off the wagon in regards to [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets , my time away has made me realize just how boring most of the posts are lately. That said, #751 kinda brought it, in it's own special way:

107: I can not believe this hasn't been writing in HP FANDOM for christsakes.

113: actually made me laugh. Because... first, give some option for Kishimoto that doesn't suck (not that he would take it mind) and second Read more... )
116: I can really relate, which is why I got out of the fandom when I did. That, and fandom hated Katara for being awesome.

117: I want to see Kyouya and Kabuto interacting now. Ladies, place your bets.

131: Is made of so much FAIL! that I don't even had the words.

134: I love Asuka too, and can relate, although I (thankfully) grew out of it. Still have issues with not feeling good enough, though.

147: WORD.

170: Thank you. Because fandomsecrets has really been missing the crazycrazy.
