Since I decided to do
naruto_wishlist , I thought now would be a good time to do a post I'm been wanted to do forever: a list of some of my bulletproof kinks.
(some of these are directly stolen from
musesfool )
[ETA: also, these are all things I look for across fandoms, they're not Naruto specific.]
1.) It's about a girl. Or girls.
Seriously, this is probably my number one kink. I am interested in the ladies. For a long time, I wouldn't read a book unless I knew that there was at least a strong secondary character who was female, if the lead wasn't. So I am FAR more likely to click on a fic if it's about a woman who I'm mildly interested in then if it's a man. And if it's a girl I'm interested it? I'm all over that fic like white on rice.
2.) It's dark. It takes something that the creator didn't focus on, and extends it to it's logical implications. Bloodbending, the subtextual rape that is possession, that the heroes are criminals... I love fics that deal with a darker take on what we're presented with.
That said...
3.) Happy endings. I like them to be earned, but honestly, I'll take a badly written happy ending over an medicore sad ending any day.
4.) Women saving men. I am all over this like white on rice.
5.) Respect. I like my characters, especially when they're in a romantic relationship, to respect each other. Riza is just as good with guns as Roy is with alchemy. Katara and Zuko are both clearly master benders, and who wins each fight is both varied and usually dependent on external factors (is it high noon or midnight?) Kaylee is just as good a mechanic as Simon is a doctor, and I love how he awknowleges this in the very first episode. (And Firefly in general is great in how it subverts sterotypes with that relationship.) One reason I ship Kakashi/Sakura, is that post-timeskip, while Kakashi is the better ninja, it's because of the fact that he has thirteen years of experience on her, and not because of the fact that, say, he's got a super-special demon in his belly or the author thinks the sun shines out of the spikes of his hair.
6.) Banter. Snark. Humor. I like my dialogue zippy. I should want to have the characters talk with each other. And it should should natural to them - Riza and Roy do not sound anything like Mal and Inara.
7.) Biting, nibbling, licking fingertips after a hand job....
8.) "Quick and dirty, up against the wall, half-dressed alley sex. Preferably a bit rough, with some biting and marking involved, possibly in the aftermath of an argument... Nnngggh...."
9.) "Cliches that are done well. 'There's only one room left and it only has one bed!" "Let's get you out of those wet clothes!' 'We have to pretend to be a couple to do the job!' 'Pretend to date me to make X jealous!' They're cliches for a reason, man. And that's because when they're done well, they work." To which I will add: traumatic incident that leaves one person bloody, after which the other bathes them. (Shower and bath are equally accepted.)
10.) The guy in a relationship falling in love/realizing he's in love first. Nothing makes me happier than seeing that done well.
11.) I want my character competent. Not everybody can do everything, but I want them to have at least one thing they do really well, and I want that thing to be not unrelated to what's going on in the plot.
And on that subject...
12.) Teamwork. I like watching people work towards a goal together. They don't have to like each other (in fact, some of my favorite characters would rather kill each other than work together) but I love plots where people are forced to work together and their relationship evolves because of it. I love nothing better than Kakashi/Sakura fics where they get assigned a mission and then go tromping off to kick ass together. (And shockingly, good fics with this are hard to find.)
13.) "We'd be perfect for each other if it wasn't for this war!" I like enemy!ships. It has to be a certain flavor, but Yaone/Hakkai and Zuko/Katara? Where you know that they are more alike than they would ever admit and you respect (or understand) both parties position?
14.) Character-driven hot sex. By which I mean, well-written sex that says something about the characters and is also delightfully steamy to read.

Also, I kinda love that icon.

6) I tend to skip fanfics with lots of long paragraphs and less dialogue. I want to hear them interact, damnit.
10) It's sad that I rarely read something like this. Actually, I can't remember any. If you don't mind, any recs? (kakashi/sakura, of course :D)
12) I like this A LOT. This is why I love saisaku, aside from the fact that Sai is like a crack sponge.

Same. Sometimes, with good fics, it's a mistake and I miss things, but I have to admit there is something just gripping about good dialogue.

SilverShine does this often. It's most present in "The Window" but it's there in "Duty Before Honor" and I think it's going to be an element in her latest multi-chapter.
Other than that... I know I've come across it, but I think it was in a couple collections of one-shots.
That's one of those fanon facts I kinda assume but I don't think it's ever some out overtly in my writing.

SaixSakura is just love.

7. & 8. Om nom nom. Slow, careful lovemaking is fine sometimes, but rough, dirty sex is so indescribably hot.
9. Oh my God, have you seen Casino Royale? The shower scene was really amazing. It wasn't overly sexual or angsty, it was a woman reacting to a violent scene she just witnessed and a jaded man taking care of her. It was so great.
14. Any other kind, no matter how kinky, bores me, frankly.

Actually, that scene in Casino Royale totally failed to work for me, and I almost wrote about it as an anti-example. Basically, while that scene on it's own devoid of context was hella hot, I hated how ....Vesper, right? Didn't do anything. I was yelling at her in the previous scene to pick up that machete and chop that guys hand off (which she didn't) so her guilt... it didn't feel realistic to me, since she hadn't done anything. There WAS no blood on her hands. If she'd killed him or hurt him, then it wold have been a whole different ball game.

Although, wait... didn't she knock someone down a flight of stairs? It's been a while since I've seen the movie.
