I think it's really cruel of my teachers that they all decided to get hardcore and start truly assigning things on the week of halloween, when I have a friend I haven't seen in months visiting.

Timing FAIL.

Also, it was cosplay night at anime club. [livejournal.com profile] enderxenocide  and I were Hakkai and Gojyo, and, if I may be frank, we were awesome. (Even if I couldn't get my hair to make the little antenaes, and we haven't figured out the monocle.) I also ate a month's worth of sugar. Anyway, Gojyo is so fun to cosplay. I just play with my (fucking awesome red) zippo and cigerette and act slutty, and it's a blast. And then [livejournal.com profile] enderxenocide  orders me around (I got Hakkai a piece of pizza, a drink, candy, and something else.)

Now, before I get into the animes, a word: Please no spoilers in comments. Even those vague, "wait until later when something happens relating to what you just said! Character you loved/hated gets badass later!" kind of comments. I am a clever girl, and I always end up trying to figure out what you mean, especially when two people who have both seen the series get into those conversations full of written eyebrows lifts and significant looks.

Okay, Soul Eater? Rocks hardcore. Maka is fucking awesome, with actually valid daddy issues, and a fantastic attitude.

I am totally shipping her and Soul.  I love how they interact, and if that awesome scene in the credits where she grabs his hand and he turns into her scythe wasn't enough, there was the fantastic scene where she thinks he'd ditching her (and that girl is going to have such issues when she starts to date - hell she has them now... of course, Soul is totally going to flip when she starts to date....).

I love the style - it's stylistic and elongated while still being pleasant to watch.

Then I watched episode 5, because [livejournal.com profile] enderxenocide  loves crazy scientist characters and Dr Stein and Copy Nin Kakashi need to go out for drinks. So much.

And that scene when Stein was drawing on Maka's stomach? Creepy and hot.

Also, I totally want a Maka icon with her and Soul (in weapon form) and the text: "no man's daughter".

Last Exile: Awesome, as per usual. I think I'm going to love Tatiana desperately. Also, I'd like to chuck Alex Row off his freaking awesome boat. I have no patience for brooding brunettes who act like assholes (and yes, I'm sure he has some desperately tragic backstory that is still not going to make treating everyone like pawns okay.

Also, everyone was being really obnoxious and yelling "Karmina" whenever Alex was onscreen. I almost turned around and yelled that the girl behind me the third time it happened.

TTGL was another episode I've seen, so I skipped out early. Frankly, the more I hear about TTGL and meet its fangirls, the less I want to watch that show.

ffff I shipped them before the credits even finished rolling. And the show itself? Did not disappoint in the least.

I know! They just have chemestry!

And that scene when Stein was drawing on Maka's stomach? Creepy and hot.

It was! Almost disturbingly so!

I am so glad it's not just be. I first saw a flash of it, in the credits of something, and I looked over and [livejournal.com profile] enderxenocide with a 'tell me it's not just me' look on my face.

I feel bad for Death Scythe because the poor guy really does love his daughter and he tries stupidly hard to be a god father for her despite it all...but on the other hand the man dug his own grave and still hasn't put down the shovel. he'd be the show's Butt Monkey if so many of his problems weren't self-inflicted.

I don't have any sympathy for that guy at all. I'm like, 'suffer! SUFFER PHILANDERING JACKASS!' One thing that's very interesting, though, is that you don't usually have shounan protagonists who still have both parents around. It's quite interesting.

(Also, shameless Mifune fanboy over here)

I... don't think I've met him yet.

While I'm not going to defend Death Scythe (because he really did earn that suffering), he cuts such a pitiful figure that I can't help feel sorry for him. Maka also will occasionally take it a bit too far-not that I blame her! But occasionally she'll say something that will make me wince and say 'oof, that was harsher than necessary'.

(It's also not healthy for poor Maka to hold onto that much anger and bitterness, particularly towards her father, so I do hope she lets that go and comes to some sort of terms with him at some point)

Aha, whoops, I misread and thought you'd watched episodes one through five, not just those two episodes. So, uh, I spoiled you for someone's name. Hope you don't mind.

Also, I'm sorry, what were your thoughts on brooding brunettes who act like assholes, again? :awesome:

Yeah, Maka's anger isn't healthy for her, although it's totally understandable, and (if I may assume) the fact that Death Scyth doesn't ever change his behavoir doesn't help.

I don't mind about the name, and I knew that by skipping around and then talked about two episodes I was risking it.

Yeah except Zuko? He's an angry young man, not a brooding one. He's also fucking hilarious to watch, makes choices that actually MAKE SENSE even if they're going to bite him in the ass later, his choices DO bite him in the ass later.

Zuko: exception that proves the rule.

Zuko also does more than his fair share of brooding.

I just found your description bizarrely specific ('Brunette? What, would she be more open to it if he was blonde? I'm confused'). That, and I can't really think of anything Alex did by episode five that was particularly assholish.

True. But for some reason, Zuko doesn't press any of the same annoyance buttons I get from characters like Sasuke, Angel, or Alex Row. (all brunettes) And no, I probably WOULDN'T be more sympathetic to him if he was blond, but it just seems like when people are designing/casting those tragic brooding heroes, they wind up with dark hair.

Well, so far I've seen Alex sit silently, sit silently, be rude to Lavi and Claus, allow his men to handle Al like a sack of grain.... I'm just not impressed. At all.
