3 Things Naruto Fandom Needs To Stop Doing

Stop giving Sakura make-overs.

That red top she wears? Looks awesome on her.

The normal "redheads should not wear pink" rule does not apply in this case and I'm really sick of reading about her getting new outfits because 'omg the red just looks so bad on her and she never really liked it.'

Does anybody get all uppity about Naruto. A ninja. Wearing. Orange? No.

She's worn the same shade and the same symbol on her back since the beginning of the series; I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it's clearly important to her.

Also, stop acting like Sakura nees her gloves. Read some of the latest chapters and pay attention to how Tsunade fights.

Sakura's gloves are clearly either a.) there for the psychological effect or b.) (my personal fanon) they keep her hands clean.

After all, medics need clean hands at all times.

Additionally, Sai is not mean. He is not malicious and does not take every opportunity to be hurtful to Sakura.

(And I will have a picspam up later tonight showing how ridiculous writing him like that is.)

*snickers* Yeah, tell me about it. Green and black SUCK for nail colors! Plus... she's a medic. Medics do NOT wear nail polish. Ever. It's a little thing called chemical contamination. I don't care if she heals with chakra. If you're around open, bleeding wounds and such, you don't wear nail polish.

Perhaps the color thing is just one of those things that's just so painfully obvious no one really thinks about it.

Two points about the gloves: 1) Yes, she totally owned the fight with the giant, stupid centipede thing. And she did it without her "magic gloves". To me, that obviously points out that she's improved enough NOT to need them. 2) The part you're referencing with Sai... She wasn't trying to kill him, just make him bleed a bit. Therefore, she wouldn't "need" her gloves to do that. The reason she hauled them out on Kakashi was because she needed to come at him with the intent to kill to get those bells. Personally... I think it would have been better if she'd just grabbed his crotch, shocked him into a, "Oh, holy shit... student... holding my cock... biggest fantasy coming true..." coma and snatched the damn things... but that's just me being a jolly perv. And maybe projecting what I would have done in her place.

can't type... to busy laughing....

And thanks for the comment on nail polish... although Tsunade wears it....

Personally, I like black nail polish, but to get it to look good you need to put on two heavy coats and then one of clear, so it's REALLY NOT a fast, easy manicure, you know?

One wonders when the Akatsuki schedules time to do theirs.

"Pein-sama, I have intelligence that the Kyubbi will be in our area on a mission on Thursday. Perhaps it would be best to go after him when he's not in Konoha's walls."

"Thursday, you said? No good. We've got that appointment with the good nail place then. If we cancel we'll have to go to the other one down the street, and that one woman there scares me."

"But Pein-sama--"

"Our nails, Konan."

You know it.

Only I totally think it is an inner Atakasuki thing, and that people end up pairing up or trading off or the like.

Probably a person's partner does it, I just think the idea of the Akatsuki going to a nail place for mani pedi's from bossy Asian women is hilarious.

Although, hm. Now that I think about it, at some point this conversation must have occurred:

"You know what, Itachi-san? I can do my own. No, no, it's fine, I'll do yours, it's just you're painting my whole finger."

"..."

Oh, poor Kisame.

He's so put upon.

*snickers* Seeing as that was the ONE fight scene Kishimoto glossed over... I might have to play with it a bit in Double Edged. Like Sakura moves in for some close quarters combat to distract Kakashi with while Naruto makes an attack from another angle. He says something quippy, she replies back... and in retaliation, he slaps her ass as she turning to land a kick to his chest. Sakura, equal parts pissed that he'd spanked her and not wanting to let him get the final blow, says, "You missed. My breasts are up HERE!"

To which Kakashi has one of those, 'Wuuuuuaaaah?!" moments shortly before he realizes Naruto's about to jump his ass.

Tsunade can wear nail polish because she's more on the administrative end of things now. She doesn't really do a lot of field work, so she can wear it.

*snorts* Yeah, tell me about it. Black nail polish is fun... but it is SUCH a bitch to put on, and put on well. And then removing it too...

Ooooh, that sounds like fun. (psst, check out this entry:

... If I've not said it before, I'll say it now:

You. Are. Worshipped. Adored, even.

I'll definitely be checking out those recs of yours then. And I look forward to whatever original vampire fic you come up with. I'd started one a while back that never really came to complete fruition... but I'm working on another one where the female lead is just a straight up, normal detective. She will not be gaining powers. She will not be snogged by her hot vampire partner. In fact, when someone asks him if they're seeing each other, he'll point blank sneer and say, "Are you kidding? We vampires have a strict rule; only fuck attractive people." To which she'll say, "We humans have a strict rule; nail all asshole vamps in the balls for making rude comments."

But it's still very much in the works. Her partner is definitely gonna be snarky and a little mean to her... but they'll work together well. Opening sequence is going to involve a less-than -pretty vamp coming to them for help.

Partner: *lip curls* Who made you?

Vamp: Um... *insert name here*

Partner: *snorts* Figures. He/she never did have a very critical eye.

Vamp: *completely deflated*

Female Lead: *glares at partner* Neither did your maker.

Partner: *glares back* Don't be jealous, Type O.

He's got several nicknames for her, most of them referring to her as being bland. Such as Type O, the universal donor. In this fic, the blood types will have a different taste to them, type O being bland and generally uninteresting... unless the person they drink from was drunk or something.

But don't worry... female lead will get her own back. I just want to establish a work only relationship with these two... while giving potential fans a love/hate relationship they can squeal over.

Thank you! And we totally need to do a trade-off of vampire fiction (when I actually have written some.)

And that story sounds awesome, as does the heroine.

But don't worry... female lead will get her own back. I just want to establish a work only relationship with these two... while giving potential fans a love/hate relationship they can squeal over.

Nice. I like the idea of different blood types having different tastes. Also, if you add romance, just make sure that the heroine interacts with him as interesting as she does with the guy she's NOT interested it. I hate it when authors make that mistake.

[identity profile] nimblnymph.livejournal.com 2008-11-28 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, of course she will! She's not gonna have a split personality or anything, trust me.

I'm trying to decide now whether I wanna write this first person or not. The concept is down... but how to write it is still baffling me. On the one hand, writing it first person would make characterizing her easy. But it is sooooo overdone! On the other hand, qualapec once said that my writing style caters to a third-first perspective; I write from third person but have a tendency to make it FEEL like first person. So, if that's the case then it'd make sense to play from my strengths...

But yes, we should exchange what we've got once we've got it. I'm terribly curious to see what you rock out.

Oh, I'm sure! I've just read too many books where you have the character that the protagonist starks with, and then the less-interesting guy who she is nice with, and OF COURSE we end up shipping her with the guy she "doesn't like" because we are entertained and see them interacting more.

And I would recommend 3d person. First, I like 3d better, second you're good at it, and third, 1st person is INCREDIBLY over used, especially for urban fantasy. Like, the only urban fantasy on my shelves that's NOT in first person was written in the 80s.
