Can I just mention how awesome it is that Obama is getting sworn in on the day after we celebrate Martin Luther King Day?
Because it is.
On that subject (only not really) 20 Black Sci-Fi Icons. I'm trying to decide what to make of the fact that 3/20 are characters from Firefly. Now, Zoe (hell yeah does Zoe ever) and Book should totally be on that list, but the Operative? Especially considering that the Operative was the second black villain in a row, who were.... I want to say arguably subhuman, but have the feeling I would get lynched if I did. Anyway, you have the bounty hunter getting associated with being a lion, threatening to rape Kaylee, and then you have the Operative, who is explicitly a tool of the Alliance, which (from what we saw) was comprised of white males. I dunno, I just think that surely there was a better choice for that slot than the Operative.)
But the Marquis de Carrabas? HELL YEAH. That actor was, hands down, the best part of Neverwhere, and if I had though that he was going to be the next Doctor and then gotten the pretty barely-old-enough-to-shave boy that we did? I would have screamed so very loudly they would have heard me in England.

They had Michael but not Teal'c? Heathens!Regarding The Operative, I wouldn't say he was subhuman so much as he had rejected his humanity, and by the end, he realized it was wrong and made sure that the corruption of his masters was known. Which isn't to say that I necessarily think he should be there or really agree with their reasons.
Mind you the lack of
one of my two favorite Whedon charactersZoe would have resulted in blood, but that thankfully isn't the case.no subject
