Okay, I just want to take a minute to pimp [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon  which celebrates female characters from all fandoms for the first two weeks of February.

And unlike the last comm I joined, which was all about women's issues yet produced mainly slash (how that works god only knows) this is all about the ladies.

I already have two ficlets planned and all forms of fanwork -graphics, icons, fanart, fanfic, fanmixes, etc are welcome.

Yay! Will have to check this out...

And unlike the last comm I joined, which was all about women's issues yet produced mainly slash (how that works god only knows) this is all about the ladies.

I've noticed a really bizarre attitude that often leads to that. It usually goes something like...
Person: "This show treats women unfairly!"
Me: "Oh, I know!" (thinking: Characters A and B are so cool and just as strong and capable as everyone else, they deserve the respect and screentime that the other characters get!)
Person: "So I'm going to completely ignore the female characters because they're all dumb skanks, and instead singing praises about their far superior male counterparts!"
Me: "Yeah- ...Wait, what?"

It is, unfortunately, more common than you'd think. The worst part is some people seem to think it's actually productive.

Oh, god, that pissed me off so much!

I mean, I admit I judge slashers, especially if that is all they're interested in - basically, I assume that they have issues with women in general and being a woman in particular until I find out otherwise, and situations where it's SUPPOSED to focus on women and they use slash to somehow do that...

Massive cognitive dissonace, imho.

I ship a few slash pairings (as well as femmeslash) since I'm the type who generally picks pairings based on interraction less than gender. I probably lean more towards het and femmeslash though, just because I tend to prefer female characters.

BUT, when someone ships only slash - especially if they seem to be pretending all the female chatacters don't exist - I know I probably wont relate to them well at all fandom-wise. I tryyyy not to judge much on it, but I feel the same way you do a lot of the time.

Same. I call myself on my snap judgements, but I still make them.

Red? Is this (http://brokenanime.com/pictures/souleater/souleater05/big/souleater05_14.jpg) the screenshot you wanted iconed a while back?

Um, not actually. I was thinking of the manga image, which actually wasn't as clear as I remembered. Thanks for the though, though.
