gacked from [profile] lalita_b :

In your opinion, which is the anime/manga you know that...

...you like the most?

Soul Eater

...has the best character development?

Saiyuki

...has the most original plot?

Princess Tutu

...has the most imaginative writers?

This is a tie between Soul Eater (the world building) and Princess Tutu (absolutely everything).

...has the biggest Gary Stu among its characters?

Naruto. See title character. And also Sasuke.

...has the biggest Mary Sue among its characters?

I have yet to met a female character who reaches the Sue-heights of Sasuke and Naruto. Although to be fair, the protagonist of Sailor Moon typifies everything I hate about anime female characters.

...inspired you to draw your first anime fanart?

I have yet to inflict my horrific art on anyone.

...inspired you to write your first anime fanfic?

Fullmetal Alchemist, which was my very first anime.

...has made you laugh more than any other?

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

...has the best filler episodes?

Apparently Ouran Host Club has filler episodes which I never noticed, so I'm going to go with that anime.

...you stopped watching for some time, then started watching again?

Skip Beat

...is the sequel that should have never been made?

To be honest, I'm not thrilled about a second FMA series being made, although I've yet to actually watch it.

...you're embarrassed to admit you like?

Naruto

...pissed you off when they stopped airing it?

I can't think of anything.

...made you cry the most?

I've cried at two works of fiction in my entire life - neither were anime.

...started out well, then went down?

Black Cat.

...had a mediocre plot but excellent characters?

Naruto, Yankee-kun to Megane-chan (seriously, plot? In that anime?).

...had a good premise but the characters were incredibly obnoxious?

Bleach.

...you watched just because you were "in love" with a character?

Well, I kept reading Naruto past the wave arc because of Kakashi....

...hated when they aired fillers?

Soul Eater. DAMN YOU EXCALIBUR, DAMN YOU TO HELL!

...impressed you just because it existed?

Claymore

...never could follow up and understand no matter how much you tried?

Serial Experiments: Lain. Also, I typically need someone to explain the plot of Black Lagoon to me after I finish reading the arc.

...every time you watched an episode you had to comment it with your neighbors?

Naruto, Soul Eater.

...is a disgrace for everything animation-related?

Sailor Moon, Pokemon. Both shows that taught me that as a genre, I did not like anime.

fgdhjfdg SOOOO ANNOYINGGGGG >:/

Unbelievably annoying, I don't care how famous the VA is.

Yes, completely agree with your opinion on Sailor Moon and Pokemon. They too ruined anime for me. Oh, and Beyblade also made my brain meats hurt (damn characters couldn't punch through the glass they got trapped behind and had to use their f**king tops instead.) Fullmetal Alchemist was the first one I watched in a long time that I actually enjoyed.

I stopped watching Naruto at the Wave Arc and I think the main reason I came back to that fandom was because of the characters. Naruto's redeeming feature is that, and the hot smut that comes from the fandom.

It's funny really, I love Fullmetal alchemist, but rarely read fanfiction let alone write any myself for said fandom. On the other hand, I have a whole folder of intheworks Naruto fan fiction and the stuff I posted on my Livejournal yet I'm somewhat embarrassed about liking Naruto.

I am a bit hesitant to watch the second FMA series mainly because I'm so attached to the first one. I understand that the managa (never read that) is different from the original fma anime and I heard that FMA2 based off that. I can't help but think 'Why couldn't they have just done that the first time?' But then I remember that, while I still love that anime, it's a huge cash cow and they can still milk it for all it's worth.

Well I think that's it.... back to writing more smut for my embarrassing fandom.

I only watched FMA because all my friends were into manga and I wanted to watch one so I'd know what they were talking about sometimes.

The reason that the original series is different from the manga is that the manga wasn't finished when they were writing the series, so they just went off in a completely different direction. And it turned out that I liked some of the characterizations and plots much better than in the manga.

Sometimes the badly written fandoms are easier and more fun to write fanfic in.

Funnily enough, Sailor Moon and Pokemon were my first anime, and at various points I adored them. However, I was also a little kid -_-

Damn you for reminding me that I have so much catch up to do for FMA. D:

Hey, there was a while where I adored both of those shows before the ennui and annoyance hit.

I can't say anything bad about Pokemon. That was the first anime I ever watched (even if I didn't know it was anime at the time; I was like eight), and I was absolutely in love with it. Although I'm sure if I watched it again now, it would not be nearly at the god-status it was ten years ago.

I still have my deck of Pokemon cards. My favorites are Gengar and Team Rocket Golduck.

I always wanted Team Rocket to win at least once. They never did and it was very sad.

Heh...yeah. Sailor Moon and Pokemon were also my first anime. Childhood favorites, but it would naturally be a different story now.

Although, have you read Jim Butcher's Codex Alera series (good series, badass girls, I think you'd like it)? Basically, the entire premise was based on Pokemon, the lost Roman legion, and Jim's desire to win an argument that there is no such thing as a bad idea. I think he did a pretty good job of taking a series where the monsters are fucking cute and making them so they're fucking-dangerous-rip-your-bleeding-jaw-out monsters, which we all know are the kind he likes better.

And I'm surprised you've watched Ouran.

Yeah, Sailor Moon and Pokemon were my first anime, and they left scars.

I have read the Codex Alera series, which I really, really liked until the last two books when it seemed like he was cock!blocking Amara to give Bernard more chances to be awesome, and then he did that think where Amara is all, 'tra la la I'm a married women now, so I'm wearing skirts and not flying fast because oh noes, the peasants won't like it! But my husband likes me wearing skirts and making nice with his peasants and provides me sexual favors that make ME like not being the woman he fell in love with!'

It really bothered me, and made that scene at the end of the book, where Bernard put the slave collar on her flat out disturbing instead of clever and disturbing and hot. I remember reading that scene and going, you know, they hadn't done that in the beginning of the book, I would think this scene is the best think since sliced toast.'

It felt like a betrayal of Amara, who was always shown to be very professional and love her job dearly. (And yeah, I can see her having some backlash towards that idea after the last book, but I would have liked her husband to have been concerned about it and not thrilled.)

Why are you so surprised I've watched Ouran? I'm not afraid of shojo.

Sailor Moon is totally my guilty pleasure anime. Mmm Sailor Senshi.

I think you should give the new FMA a try. ...Mainly because I adore the manga, but the animation and voice work is really really good, too.

I'm actually started to read the manga again. We'll see if I have the time/inclination to watch the new series.

Although to be fair, the protagonist of Sailor Moon typifies everything I hate about anime female characters.

I'll admit, I kinda grew up not knowing much about that particular story, even while I was watching that show. Maybe it was because I was new to all the colors and outfits in it, and that I didn't watch much of other anime than that until Naruto came out...=_=

It's been so long and I watched so little I don't know the larger story either.

Claymore: should I watch it? I heard it was not very good in terms of story/plot/general, but other fans loved it for feminist stuff... what do you say?

You're lucky you started with FMA, heh. That's a high quality intro. I started with Sailor Moon and DBZ, which I still have some affection for despite their recognized terribleness. They got me when I was 13, in 7th grade, and susceptible to bad cartoons. I remember the first time I watched Sailor Moon I noticed that it seemed different from most cartoons...it took a while for me to realize that it was anime as a genre and completely separate from American cartoons of the 90s, even though I could tell some differences in story and pace immediately, beyond just the look of it.

I have less of an excuse for my flirtation with DBZ, for which I was 15, not 13, and should have known better. -_-() ... >D

What were the two things you read that made you cry? *is curious*
Thursday, June 25th, 2009 03:11 pm (UTC)
One was the movie 'A Little Princess' and the other was a book whose title I can't remember at the moment. Oh, and the movie AI. So that's three, actually.

WAIT! DONT DAMN EXCALIBUR'S IMMORTAL SOUL!

Oh, he totally has it coming.

Same. I liked the Eclair sub-plot, and I thought that they treated her with a lot of respect - she could have just been the evil girl coming between the main characters.
