I never understood that reveal. They didn't actually explain anything that happened in the actual first episode--not him murdering the suspect, or wanting the substance when the government didn't know about it, or trying to kill her with his car. Suddenly he's loyal without any actual explanation of his actions? I'm kinda at a loss.
I was mainly focused on what bad writing it is to solve a characters emotional issues in the simplest, easiest way possible. Think how much more interesting Olivia having to deal with her trust issues in a relationship with a guy POST-John if he was really a traitor. Much more interesting, no?
