Help

Back when I was a freshmen, I read a delightfully creepy short story about a puppeteer who falls in love with a beautiful doll. After one performance, he thinks she looks almost alive, gives her a kiss..... and she stabs him with her epic, plum-colored fingernails and sucks the life out of him.

Does this sound familiar to anyone else?

Well, the concept of someone falling in love with a doll that turns out to be sentient, then subsequently killing them/otherwise bringing harm has been done. However, like vampires, I'd say it's more of an archetype than a plagiarism if that's what you're concerned about. Personally, I like the idea and can't think of anything that it's specifically like.

Oh, it's a classic trope! And I'm not thinking of writing a story with that theme - I'm loving for an old short story, which anon informed me is 'The Loves of Lady Purple'

Anon is just here to say you're probably looking for Angela Carter's The Loves of Lady Purple. :)

Anon is absolutely right.

Thank you so much!
