Nice quark icon.

What is the debate about animal rights? Have you recently come across people not respecting them?

Personally, religion is a minefield that I rarely touch, given that most of what I have to say about it is "fuck Christianity" even though I know that's a largely irrational reaction and that I have several very nice christain on my flist.

And are you feeling like there's not much conversation going on in your lj right now?

Legend of the Seeker, Criminal Minds, wallpapers, Burn Notice, het.

Also, the only fics popping up on my flist right now are either a.) Naruto or b.) random glee fics from the newsletter most of which aren't that great.

Word, I DO wish I had more Seeker fans on my flist.

ME TOO.

When I have some free time I'm going to stalk some of the comms and try to find more.

But I was just realizing all the porny potential of various pairings and being terribly sad that I have yet to read said porn.

If I knew more about how other cultures viewed science, I would totally talk about that more.

And personally, I like coffee flavored ice cream. You?

[identity profile] lykomancer.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Religion, science, politics (actual discussion and not name-slinging or talking points), classism, environmentalism, activism.

I like mint chocolate chip or pecan praline ^_^

Ooh! Speaking of epic porn potential...did you watch the last episode? Cara trying to be a princess is epic, and I'm still reeling with how BAMF she was in that episode.

Currently, I'm looking for an icon of Cara in that dress that says "Screw being a princess, I want to be a Mord Sith"

Doctor/Rose

critical (pos&neg) analysis of popular fanfiction (no one ever does this, ever, unless there's a Mary Sue)
stylistic and cultural differences in US and UK television
professional networking between fans in close regions/locations

Im a member of the beauty101 lj group and a while back someone posted a link to cruelty free beauty products. I was completely shocked by the backlash against her. People were actually posting things like they "have the RIGHT to hurt animals if they wanted", or "go away hippy, we eat animals here". Im not a vegetarian but I believe in being as environmentally friendly as possible. I was a little shaken by the pure vitriol at even the suggestion of being cruelty free. The OP wasn't even being soap boxy about it. it was more a "hey guys, heres a list if youre interested."
great question, by the way.

Mint chocolate chip is pretty delicious.

the hunger games!

[identity profile] hungrytiger11.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
While not a new argument at all, the Wolves debate made the cover of National Geographic and has been in papers these past few months, since Grey wolves were delisted as endangered species and MT and ID successfully made them huntable. WY made more news though with their quirky and bizarre proposed law that the Feds shot down.

I'm from Wyoming and an area that wolves were released into, and can honestly say WY proposed law was weird. Anyway, there are compelling reasons on both sides, not that either side listens to the other much...

Hell yes!

fanfic for my tiny obscure video game fandoms (it would probably help if I hadn't stumbled upon these fandoms, like, five years too late), especially of the hatesex variety

ships. of some kind.

actually, just make that "my tiny obscure fandoms" in general, because I miss the days when I used to get annoyed that ATLA was eating up my flist. And I'm, like, craving fic right now.

I would say things like "politics" and such but honestly I don't keep up with the real world and am wary of only getting rants as my news source.

I do like talking about religion, but I've gotten worse about that too. Maybe I could use more practice.

[identity profile] hungrytiger11.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
I may sound rather shallow in my list of things, because it is not so much religion or politics, though I often find myself interested when they do come up, but they are also things that come up regularly in my life. There are books or TV series I'd love more people to be into and/or discussing, like Sharon Shinn's Samaria series, for instance, or Legend of the Seeker.I love hearing people talk about movies too- classic, or new, domestic or not. People all pick on different things and I enjoy reading about that. Strangely, though, I haven't seen too much of that for a few months.

Something I occasionally see, but would like to see more of, is writers talking about their process.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
Sadly not! (And please say no more.) I'll post when i get a chance to watch it and we can jabber then.

I'd love to hear discussion about religion that isn't Christianity. This is in part because whenever Christianity shows up to the party people start hating on it, and while I get quite a bit of the hate it gets tiring to remind people that the crazies don't make up the whole group. It is also depressing and hurtful to hear people slam one's beliefs with blanket statements and makes it feel like they're talking about you.

But I'd love to talk about Islam, because all I really know about them is that Muslims make awesome neighbors. And really beautiful architecture. I actually know a little more than this, but I love hearing about culture that stems from areas that practice Islam, and how their lives are different/more of the same to me.

I'd love to see a recommendations post for TV shows, books, manga, comics, anime, etc... because I'm trying to get back into some stuff (especially TV shows and anime), and I'm kinda overwhelmed right now.

Cool ways to be enviromently friendly would be fun, as well as the hunt to buy organic/responsibly on a budget. I want to help change the world but I still think of myself as a poor college student so it isn't always easy for me to do so.

This is an awesome meme!

I'd like to see more politics, civil rights, languages, and writing--both the writing itself and the writing process + publishing.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Didn't they just announce that it was going to be a live action show?

You know, I want more people to be talking about ships right now too. (I'm kinda stressed, I want my lj to be an ocean of fandom and squee.)

And I'm, like, craving fic right now.

I kind of am too, only I don't really have time to read it, so getting recs for things just stresses me out.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2010-03-05 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
It is also depressing and hurtful to hear people slam one's beliefs with blanket statements and makes it feel like they're talking about you.

This is one reason that I don't talk about Christianity that much; because I am just not rational about it.

I agree about wanting to hear more about Islam.

I'd love to see a recommendations post for TV shows, books, manga, comics, anime, etc... because I'm trying to get back into some stuff (especially TV shows and anime), and I'm kinda overwhelmed right now.

Overwhelmed by not knowing what to watch next? Because speaking personally, I wish people would STOP reccing me things, because I don't have time to keep up with fandoms I already know I love.
