What subjects do you wish were discussed more often on your personal friends list?

Nice quark icon.

What is the debate about animal rights? Have you recently come across people not respecting them?

Personally, religion is a minefield that I rarely touch, given that most of what I have to say about it is "fuck Christianity" even though I know that's a largely irrational reaction and that I have several very nice christain on my flist.

And are you feeling like there's not much conversation going on in your lj right now?

Im a member of the beauty101 lj group and a while back someone posted a link to cruelty free beauty products. I was completely shocked by the backlash against her. People were actually posting things like they "have the RIGHT to hurt animals if they wanted", or "go away hippy, we eat animals here". Im not a vegetarian but I believe in being as environmentally friendly as possible. I was a little shaken by the pure vitriol at even the suggestion of being cruelty free. The OP wasn't even being soap boxy about it. it was more a "hey guys, heres a list if youre interested."
great question, by the way.

SO MUCH FAIL.

That is just epically not cool. And eating meat is NOT a justification for treating animals with cruelty, and I say that as someone who would kill a cow for her steaks herself, if she had too.

While not a new argument at all, the Wolves debate made the cover of National Geographic and has been in papers these past few months, since Grey wolves were delisted as endangered species and MT and ID successfully made them huntable. WY made more news though with their quirky and bizarre proposed law that the Feds shot down.

I'm from Wyoming and an area that wolves were released into, and can honestly say WY proposed law was weird. Anyway, there are compelling reasons on both sides, not that either side listens to the other much...

*is out of the loop*

What was so bizarre about the law?
