Castle 1x05

Oh, wow, they really kicked the emotional impact up a notch this episode.

Also, laser tag. *dies*

There are various approaches taken to depicting a rich character, and I like the way they handle Castle best. Because he's not just tossing around cash, but when he sees something totally awesome that he'd use like a laser tag set or onion-chopping goggles or a personalized bulletproof vest or a nice apartment in NYC(which most shows set in the city have but don't provide an excuse for), he'll get it. Nothing overblown, just rich enough to say "Why not?"

*nods*

You've mentioned that before, and I really agree. He's one of the most realistic rich people on tv and is a believable mix of frivolous and sensible (I have no doubt that Alexis will not have to work a day in her life if she wasn't, you know, Alexis.)And a lot of the things he'd buy are things WE'D buy if we had the money - it's lazer tag and fencing equipement and not belgium caviar and couture everything.

Yeah. He'll get things that are awesome in a practical way -- stuff that he'll get the use out of. Nice suits, sure, but that's 'cause he has appearances to keep up with.

I mean, Alexis takes fencing lessons, and I bet she has better odds of using that skill in her life than tennis or polo or whatever the steriotypical rich kids learn.

It's not until a point in season two that it really sank in for me that he's rich-rich, not just able-to-afford-cool-stuff-rich. I don't wanna spoil, but it can be very useful to have that kind of cash on hand.

Personally, fencing is so stylized I have a hard time finding it more practical than polo, but I do think it's clear that she's taking full advantage of the good school and the access to extra-curriculars that she has.

It came in handy on Pushing Daisies, didn't it?

This is true.

I just started it, but I'm really really enjoying it.

I've only seen half of the first season consecutively, but I HAVE seen the very latest episode of the season season. Can we say dom!Beckett? *drools*
