Time To Play Catch-Up

Day 01 - A show that should have never been canceled
Day 02 - A show that you wish more people were watching
Day 03 - Your favorite new show (aired this TV season)
Day 04 - Your favorite show ever

Day 05 - A show you hate

To be honest, there are a lot of easy answers to this question. I rather loath reality tv, I'm no big fan of reality tv and their are plenty of shows who's very premise offends me deeply. But I'm going to go with a more surprising answer: NCIS.

On paper, this show is everything I should love: it's a character-driver crime show with plenty of snark and a decent mix of female characters. However, there is a undercurrent of misogyny that runs deep in this show. Deep. Gibbs is the classic, older, white, never-wrong dickhead (seriously, whenever I would watch that show I would pray for him to be wrong - he never, ever is), the actor who played Logan Cale is (quite capably playing a sexist douche (who always comes out on top), Kate was subtly and not-so subtly put in her place until she died, Ziva is awesome except for that whole thing were she's in love with said sexist douche, and Abby is adored... because she is smart enough not to compete on the guy's turf.

Bitter? Who, me?

Day 06 - Favorite episode of your favorite TV show

Toss up between Ariel, Out of Gas, and War Stories. Firefly is just that good, okay?

Day 08 - A show everyone should watch

Star Trek - either The Next Generation or DS9. I don't think anyone should have to watch ALL of them, but I think a decent smattering of episodes would be well-advised. First, Star Trek is a classic part of our culture's canon, it's the most well-know positive future, and I think it deals (or attempts to deal) with moral questions and quandaries worthy of debate.

Day 09 - Best scene ever

Can I just state for the record that I do not like all the superlatives in this meme?

Day 10 - A show you thought you wouldn’t like but ended up loving

That would be The Vampire Diaries.

Day 11 - A show that disappointed you
Day 12 - An episode you’ve watched more than 5 times
Day 13 - Favorite childhood show
Day 14 - Favorite male character
Day 15 - Favorite female character
Day 16 - Your guilty pleasure show
Day 17 - Favorite mini series
Day 18 - Favorite title sequence
Day 19 - Best TV show cast
Day 20 - Favorite kiss
Day 21 - Favorite ship
Day 22 - Favorite series finale
Day 23 - Most annoying character
Day 24 - Best quote
Day 25 - A show you plan on watching (old or new)
Day 26 - OMG WTF? Season finale
Day 27 - Best pilot episode
Day 28 - First TV show obsession
Day 29 - Current TV show obsession
Day 30 - Saddest character death

That scene just made me want to watch True Blood, which until now I have not had much of an interest in. I love that high-five the guy gives Lafayette at the end after the bitch-slapping has commenced!

EDIT: Oh yes, and NCIS bores me. It was fun in the beginning, but there are just so many other shows that try to work the same dynamic and tropes, but are also so much more successful at it.

lol, I had the same reaction!

I feel kind of bad for NCIS. It's just kind of repetitive at this point.

I... don't know if I can recommend True Blood. It's violent and gratuitously sexual and there are time when I don't like anyone.

And yet, it sucked me in.

*dies* Ah... that scene. I think my heart went to Lafayette in that scene.

Everyone loves that scene!

That scene was fabulous. Lafayette ftw! You show 'em.

NCIS I dislike for the less informed reason that every episode I've ever seen annoys the ever-loving crap out of me. I dunno what it is--probably a combination of a lot of things--but everyone on it drives me insane.

You know, if you can ever verbalize what bugs you about NCIS, I would LOVE to hear it.

So true about Star Trek.

Thank you!

That scene from True Blood is so perfect. ;)

Also, War Stories is definitely my favourite episode of Firefly.

Great Jessica icon!

And yeah, I know of no one who doesn't love that True Blood scene.

Also, War Stories is definitely my favourite episode of Firefly.

I know! I don't even know where to start talking about what's excellent about it!

Thanks!

"I'll be in my bunk." :p

The funniest torture scene ever! A married couple having problems and working through them (with no adultery involved!)

[identity profile] mistaria.livejournal.com 2010-07-05 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! Zoe bringing her man back to the ship and then him being all badass. Not to mention one of my favourite parts with River in the entire series (shooting the badies without looking and freaking the crap out of Kaylee).

Yes to all of it. Is there even ONE scene in that episode that is less than awesome?
