Kahlan was mentioned in my second-to-last post and then I found some awesome icons of her which demanded to be uploaded, which lead me to rewatch the best parts of the pilot and "Torn" and now I need an excuse to use said icons.

So talk to me about Legend of the Seeker please. Any kind of comment is welcome (except for 'lots is DUMB and you are DUMB for watching it and I HATE badass ladies with epic hair.')

I've never watched a single episode of this series. Why do you love it?

Badass ladies, gorgeous fights, hot men, a whole cadre of BDSM-inspired lady fighters, humor, the best AU episodes ever, I could go on.

These two vids give you a good taste of the show:

I love the costume designs. Kahlan's Confessor robes and Cara's Mord Sith leathers are both amazing. I also really loved the episode where Cara had to pretend to be a noblewoman so they could break Kahlan out of the dungeon. Cara was amazing- but I was really dazzled with the pretty dresses.

SAME HERE.

God, I just adore Kahlan's white confessor dress (and think it's totally cool how the lower-level confessors wear black). Apparently, in the original version of the Mord Sith outfit, you can't sit down. ^_^ But yes, those leathers are AMAZING.

As was Cara and her dresses in "Princess."

I've only seen about halfway through the pilot because I saw it on Megavideo. I tried to utorrent it, but it failed.

Only the first ten minutes and the last ten minutes are worth watching. That said, the pilot is here:

I tried to upload one of my favorite episodes of the first season as well, but it wouldn't work for me.

I heard the song "On a Mission" by Gabriella Cilmi the other day and went...wow, this is like, every woman on LotS ever. I mean, even the female guest stars usually have a plot of some kind, and I don't mean just the evil kinds. It's things like that that make me wonder what exactly the gender politics of the TV-version of the Midlands/D'Hara are, since usually in entirely patriarchal societies women are taught to be passive.

Very true!

This could be a very interesting fic prompt. And I have to say, I bet the gender politics of the Midlands/D'Hara are probably pretty good, considering a.) their highest authority is exclusively female b.) we've seen queens and princesses and their gender is never mentioned as a downside c.) places were this isn't true and Strange and Worthy Of Comment d.) there are two different badass cadres that are exclusively women (Sister of the Light, Mord Sith).

The one area where you don't see women is in the standard D'Harian soldiers.

ah-hahahaha sadly from the season one episodes I watched I never felt like the writers quite knew how to handle what they were dealing with...which, listening to my friend describe the books, kind of sounds like what the author himself struggled with, and he had created everything. :-(

Still. Denna. I have watched that one many a time when needing a healthy viewing of testosterone in my life.

Mostly I am commenting to say that I completely understand your icon conundrum, because the other day I found the most gorgeous set of Breakfast at Tiffany's icons, and I have just been posting with them wherever I go because I love them so much.

Fair point (although it must be said the writers of the tv do a MUCH better job with the characters than the original author did).

Still. Denna. I have watched that one many a time when needing a healthy viewing of testosterone in my life.

She comes back in.... I believe it is two episodes in season two. She's remains badass and gets some humanization at the same time.

I have just been posting with them wherever I go because I love them so much.

Sometimes that's just what you have to do. ^_^
