In Which Red Multi-Ships Like Whoa

Day 01 - What is your current favourite ship

This is an odd time of year: the summer shows are ending, the fall shows haven't started, I'm rereading Harry Potter, in which I ship everything, I'm rewatching TVD, but I'm right at the part where Elena and Stefan are being adorable and not yet to the point where Elena and Damon are going on road trips and be hot together, nobody is writing Annie/Jeff right now and I'm becoming intrigued by Abed/Britta and Annie/Abed, over in Burn Notice I am loving how solidly canon Michael/Fi is while I simultaneously enjoy Jesse/Fi, plus I'm shipping two Jessica (True Blood) pairings pretty much equally.

(This, btw, makes it REALLY hard to figure out what fanfic to look for when I'm browsing the internet. I have no focus.)

So I'm going to go with Katniss/Peeta, from The Hunger Games. 'Cause I can.

Katniss/Peeta. sigh...fantastic!
My current, extremely current, ship is Peter (a catholic priest) and Assumpta (an atheist bar owner) from this old Irish drama I just found called Ballykissangel. And its canon!(Yay netflix for broadening my horizons!)
Other than that, I agree with Jess/Annie. Although doing a "because im stuck in bed sick" marathon i'm kinda intrigued by Troy/Britta.
Have you read anything by LJ Smith? I recommend The Secret Circle for some more multi-ships to hang on to. Boys and girls EVERYWHERE. also, The Forbidden Game Trilogy and her Dark Visions trilogy. SO many fantastic characters.

And I don't think I have read anything by LJ Smith - but I've been tempted to pick up some of her work given my mad love for TVD.

I started reading LJS earlier this year. She's absurdly tropey and they're like most of the gothic/horror YA I remember reading as a teen, but very fun, and I like her characters.

Wildwood: These two books are written for a younger audience than the rest of her books and doesn't have her normal love triangle, and is about a group of siblings instead. I actually read them as a kid and imprinted strongly on them (mostly the second) particularly in the approach to women and mythic destinies. I reread them recently and while they held up well, the flaws also stood out more. Nostalgia may have influenced how well they held up.

Secret Circle: Basically about a coven of witches who rule the local high school. There are several thinks that kicked off my current gothic/horror kick, but this was a major one. (The other major influences were a Korean horror movie, the handling of the supernatural in TVD [barring Damon's woobification in the second half of the season], and a couple Asian anthology series about older supernatural tales.) For 90% of the first book, you're convinced LJS is writing about the epic and true love of two of the female leads, and then the editor said "no, this shall be het!" and then there was a het love interest. But LJS kept forgetting about that.

The Forbidden Game: Technically kind of bad, but actually my favorite so far because the approach to the horror elements is more original than a lot of stuff, there's a lot of focus on the heroine declaring her autonomy, and overall plot is based on one of my favorite mythic metanarratives. I recommend doing your best to ignore the heroine's boyfriend.

Dark Visions: Technically probably the best of the ones I've read. At least, I think it's the most plotted from beginning to end (except, maybe, for the very end). It's a psychic teens vs evil institute series, and probably has the most direct light/dark hero approach of her books, with the heroine cast in a bit more of a traditional Hero role overall (all of her heroines are pretty much cast in a more mythic Hero[ine] light, but it felt a bit more conscious to me here). The very ending didn't really work for me, but not enough to sour me to the series.

I haven't read Vampire Diaries or Night World yet.

I agree.
In the middle of Catching Fire when I realized that Peeta/Katniss had a large chance of actually happening, and happening perfectly I had such joy that finally i had found a series that captured a world and all the characters in it perfectly.

I mean, I felt that way reading Harry Potter, but it was different. I can't even-I loved the characters in both series a LOT. But in THG all of the characters were just so vulnerable and in the state of war constantly. It was a lot like that anxiety feeling all the characters were going through in Deathly Hallows, except in THG that feeling was through the WHOLE SERIES.

Heh, I don't think I have anything too controversial to say but I do have a mix of friends, some who don't necessarily like the pairings I like or some who like pairings I can't stand. Which is fine but I try not to be vocal about this stuff when I know not everyone agrees.

I'm still thinking about doing this just so I have an excuse to use my new icons. :p
