It's Sunday, my flist is dead quiet, and I'm doing random chores like laundry and cleaning my room and picking up cardboard.

Talk to me, please? About anything.

(And if you need ideas about what fandom/etc I'm into, my icons are usually a fairly accurate guide.)

vampire diaries: everyone is talking about it, but I have no idea what it is. FEEL FREE TO CONVERT ME.

The Vampire Diaries is about the vampire brothers Salvatore (bad-boy Damon and nice guy Stefan) and high school student Elena Gilbert, who is a dead ringer for Katherine, the cruelly beautiful vampire who turned the two brothers back in 1864. And while that sounds like a Twilight rip off (it's not, it's based off books that were written ten years pre-Twilight) and is on the CW, it's a really good show. Not perfect, but the women have relationships with each other and agency and are respected, it has one of the healthiest vampire/mortal girl relationships ever shown on tv, and the pacing is insane. Things that would take three episodes on other shows happen in eight minutes on TVD.

OK, I have questions:

Which do you prefer: Jessica/Hoyt, Jessica/Tommy, Jessica on her lonesome, killing werewolves and learning how to be a vampire, or some mix of the aforementioned options?

What are your thoughts about Gossip Girl (in general)?

OT, but that icon you have with Jeff only in his underwear is by [livejournal.com profile] iconzicons.

While I greatly enjoy the UST between Jessica and Tommy on the show and like reading fanfic for them, for the show I prefer Hoyt and Jesssica. I've loved seeing their relationship develop and while I had my doubts, they've sold be on Hoyt's ability to know and still love Jessica.

The first season of Gossip Girl is a really fabulous guilty pleasure and I enjoyed it greatly, despite having a limit to how sympathetic I can be towards any character with that much money. I got bored in the middle of the second season and stopped watching, and from what I hear, I'm not missing anything.

And thanks of the info about this icon!

I love Jessica/Hoyt, but Jessica/Tommy has its appeal too.

You really didn't miss anything by not watching the third season. To be honest, I'm not even sure why I watched it. Force of habit, maybe. And depending on who you ask the finale was either the most horrendous thing ever or just decent.

You're welcome.

That's basically what everyone has told me. Needless to say, I'm not inspired to get caught up with that show.

Did I miss anything by not watching True Blood this season? I feel like a bad Jessica and Pam fan.

No.

If you want Pam and Jessica, just watch the episode of Jessica's vlog that has Pam in it.

Ummm... how about I tell you a story?

So, I went to the bookstore today with my sister to do a little writing for my novel. We're sitting in the cafe, having some coffee deliciousness. There's a woman sitting at the table behind us reading a magazine. She gets up, leaving her reusable shopping bag, glasses, coffee (in a for-here mug), and magazine on the table to reserve her spot.

Some woman and her daughter order their drinks and start looking around for a table. All of them are taken. So, what do they do? They toss out that woman's drink and VERY RUDELY signal one of the VERY BUSY cafe employees over to clean the table and collect the bag and glasses "someone left there".

The employee knew what had happened, but she couldn't very well say, "Listen, bitch, you're stealing someone else's table." So instead she said that they should leave the bag and glasses there in case the owner returned.

That wasn't good enough for the women. They ended up picking up the bag and glasses and setting them on the Drink Pick-Up area.

Well, the first woman returned, saw people sitting at her table and went over to ask where her stuff was. The women told her they turned it in at the cafe. She then said, "Well, I had my coffee here, too. I was coming back."

The younger of the two women then pushed to her feet, got in the first woman's face and said, "YOU need to NOT raise your voice!"

The first woman had't been yelling. At all. She'd been very polite until this young woman got all up in her face. She said, "Well, I just don't understand why you would move someone's stuff. It was pretty obvious I was coming back. I mean, my coffee was FULL."

The young woman goes, "Not my problem. You left. We sat down."

The first woman started getting REALLY upset and was like, "But this is MY table! You moved my stuff, threw out my coffee, and took MY table!"

That was when the young girl did something so stupidly rude that it pissed me off. She got all mocking and faked a whiny voice as she said, "Awww, SO SORRY about YOUR TABLE. Gosh, sorry we took YOUR TABLE. Sorry you left YOUR TABLE."

And that's when I stood up, walked over to the bitch and said, "Hey, listen. I'm here to work, not listen to you carry on like a child. You made a mistake -- intentionally or not, it doesn't matter. So how about you step up, apologize, and stop being disruptive?"

And then you know what happened? The freakin cafe started applauding. I got APPLAUDED by an entire cafe full of people. Dude. Just ... dude. It was like out of a movie.

The girl, realizing she was outnumbered, stepped down and left with her friend, complaining about "nosy bitches" and how "people are just SO rude".

And that is the story for today. *nods*

Right now, I'm watching a VH1 special on Top 100 Most Influential Artists. Freakin' hell, man?!?! Janis Joplin is SEVENTY-TWO?!?! That. Is. Blasphemy! Even if you don't like her music, you CANNOT deny she was massively influential for the style of her time, not to mention incredibly distinctive. You can pick out a Joplin song ANYWHERE, no matter WHO sings it.

And fucking REM ranked higher than her. For what, that one song that is awesome but is soooo massively overplayed on the radio -- even now on the Lite Rock station? *shakes head* Whatever. Everyone knows VH1 tanks when it comes to music anyway.

AND SO DID JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE?!?!?! Justin Fucking Timberlake ranked higher than Janis Joplin, AC/DC, REM, The Doors, Van Morrison, and TUPAC?!

*head desk*

I need to switch the station now.

My icon accurately sums up my response to this.

Just needed to jump in and say how badass it was of you to do that.

(And gosh, people ARE just so rude...she happens to be proof of that on top of declaring it)

I love you, too. XDD And you should post that story on this website: http://notalwaysright.com/

Haha! Aww, thanks! Getting love from strangers makes me feel fuzzy. Or maybe I need a new razor?

Oh, my ... I clicked the link. And my head hurts from smacking it into a wall so many times in a row. Wow. There is some MASSIVE fail there. *cracks knuckles* Time to add mine to the list!

Just keep on being awesome. XD

It's suuuuuuuuch an addictive website! I can't stop reading it. I'm really glad I've never encountered customers like this...

First of all... I cannot believe those two girls were SO extremely rude - they broke SO MANY social contracts and conventions.

But mainly... you are totally awesome. Not only did you give those bitches the smack-down they deserved (which is so goddam impressive, to stand up and say exactly the right thing in the heat of the moment) but you totally backed up that poor woman who had someone moving her stuff.

No wonder the whole room started clapping. I would have if I'd been there. (Also, I hope someone treated that girl to a coffee, because those things are expensive.)

And fucking REM ranked higher than her. For what, that one song that is awesome but is soooo massively overplayed on the radio -- even now on the Lite Rock station? *shakes head* Whatever. Everyone knows VH1 tanks when it comes to music anyway.

I think VH1 is confusing 'popular in contemporary memory' with 'influential.'

You know ... I hadn't thought about the coffee at the time, just that there was some unnecessary bitchiness and that it was really irritating. I mean, the first woman hadn't done ANYTHING wrong. Everyone knows the "rules" of a bookstore cafe: if there's personal items on the table along with books/magazines, the table is probably taken. If it's just a stack of books ... anyone's guess.

I just really, REALLY can't stand catty, unnecessary rudeness.

I think VH1 is confusing 'popular in contemporary memory' with 'influential.'

*SNORTS* Possibly. But then, Mariah Carey ranked waaaaaay low on the scale -- 90 something or other. I didn't stick around to see who else made the cut though.

Okay so I finally watched Inception (possibly with the only other twenty five people not to have seen the movie yet) so... what did you think of the film? What did/do you think of the fandom that sprung up? What, if any, pairings do you like?

Monday, September 13th, 2010 03:22 am (UTC)
I watched Inception after I heard both bad and good things about it and wanted to form an opinion of my own. To be honest, I think the movie deserves the hype - it's well-written, well-acted, and is a summer blockbuster that isn't allowing the audience to mentally check out.

That said, I wish the fandom would shut up. I understand loving the movie, but I hate how it's infested OTHER fandoms where I'll be innocently reading some fanfic and dun-DUN - it's all a dream and (insert character of choice) is the architect!

Arthur/Ariadre had potential, but honestly they didn't have enough interaction for me to really ship them.

General question that should give you some fun essayability:

How (i.e. with what), when and why did you get into vampire stuff?
Monday, September 13th, 2010 03:24 am (UTC)
So early that I do not remember. Buffy was the first television show that hooked me, and was very seminal, but eight years before I started watching that my mom was making me return Interview With The Vampire because I was too young to read it, and I was already a vampire veteran at that point.
Monday, September 13th, 2010 09:26 pm (UTC)
I guess it's at these times when some of us tend not to have a lot of people around to talk to. Either that, or I'm a loner (which is much more likely. XDDD)

On that thought...in regards to fandom, I'm currently obsessing over A Game of Thrones. However, I know that you haven't gotten to that road as of now, so I guess I should not spoil anything yet. ^^;

Though, so far, one of the characters in said story is making my inner-feminist raging livid. The other girls I can understand better (two of them I like a lot), but this one...she disturbs me. ^^;

Well, Sundays and Saturdays are usually pretty quiet.

I will let you know when I read AGOT.
