Meta Rambles

Here are the answers to the meta meme I was going a couple days ago.

And, since I'm going to be washing windows tomorrow, if you have any fannish questions you'd like me to answer, feel free to ask, because I'd enjoy something to ponder while I scrub tomorrow.

For [info]doriche: Suppose you were in Sarah's place. Would you have accepted Jareth's offer to stay with him forever? Why or why not?

Absolutely not.

Sarah totally did the right thing. At the time, the invitation to stay in the Labyrinth was “I ask for so little. Just fear me, love me, do as I say and I will be your slave.” Which, you know, was totally hot and all, but completely negates any chance of actually having an equal relationship with the Goblin King. If she (or I) had said yes, Jareth would have almost immediately lost interest, had power over her (or me) and turned the baby into a goblin in three minutes.

However, what I would have done differently is, at the end, I would have noticed the owl and opened the window.

For [info]renegadekitsune: If you were Yaone, who would you date? Hakkai or Gojyo?

Without question, Hakkai.

And I can answer this two ways, with what I think Yaone would do, and what I would do if I had the option of dating Hakkai or Gojyo. So I’ll answer both.

First, I think if all things were equal, Yaone would choose Hakkai. Frankly, those two are much, much more compatible in ways that make life much easier in the long term - they both are polite, neat, and have a similar sense of duty. So I think long-term, they’d live well together, and I think Yaone is smart enough to know that.

She’s look at Hakkai and see someone how is honest, understands her, would do anything to protect her (based on Kanan) and would have a much more approachable exterior than Gojyo does.

Part of this is my OTP talking - I find it intrinsically impossible to write a Hakkai and a Yaone who don’t care about each other, regardless of what else is going on.

Also, I find my Gojyo x Yaone (which, don’t get me wrong, I love love love them) is all about the situation - how does what is going on in their individual lives and/or emotional issues make them see this-and-such in the other person? while Hakkai and Yaone is all about the people - I think Yaone is Hakkai’s second chance with the closest think to indestructible he can get, and I think Hakkai is Yaone’s chance to be with someone who will put her first and go beyond the impossible to keep her safe. That their issues, (suicidal tendencies, belief in their worthlessness, Hakkai’s sense of himself as a monster, Yaone’s violent sense of duty and obligation) are real and valid just makes them more perfect for each other.

Additionally, if I were answering this question as me, I would add that I’m an elitist bitch, and an interesting conversationalist is very high on my list of necessary character traits, so with Gojyo I’d worry that after a while I’d get bored and/or irritated with him. And while I might get irritated with Hakkai from time to time (“Didn’t I warn that cleaning other people’s desk’s without permission will earn you retribution?” *takes out handcuffs*) long-term I think it will work.

However, that’s not to say that Gojyo couldn’t sweep either Yaone or me off our feet, because, I mean, it’s Sha Gojyo.

I'd buy like, fifty tickets for that ride.

Is there an unlimited day pass on that one?
