There's A Ghost In My Lungs

Joss Whedon on humanism:

On a complete switch of topic, this D/D vid cracked me up:

The way the text of the show is warped but warped so deliciously is just giggle-inducing.

And now my legit favorite D/D vid:

(Both of these are by dollsome, btw.)

That Joss speech was awesome. I just forwarded it to my dad (who has the amusing problem of being both an old school republican and an increasingly militant/prostelitizing atheist). I think he'll especially appreciate the punchline about who the true believers really are.

Yeah, that doesn't sound like a combination that would lead to a lot of compatibility...

I love listening to Whedon talk about ideas. Always worth the time :)

It really is. Have you heard his interview with Ira Glass? It's fabulous.

No, I haven't. Do you have a link?

HAHAHA I LOVE BOTH THOSE D/D VIDS. [livejournal.com profile] dollsome is a champ.

She is. And she has a ton more, which I'm totally looking forward to watching.

I love how he said faith wasn't the enemy of humanism because I agree that it's not faith that gets in the way of progression, it's a lack of tolerance and education. If you do or don't have faith, you're less likely to become an extremist if you know more about the world you live in.

Agreed. Usually, the more education you have, the less you view religion and science as incompatible or start thinking in us and them absolutes. (Or at least, ideally. I know that kind of thing can really depend on who's teaching and the student themselves.)
