I have always found the dig, "she's no better than she ought to be" so weird. Like, it takes forever for me to process how it's even an actual insult until I work around to the base assumption that all woman are evil whores.

Also, I deeply dislike setting my clocks forward an hour. It sucks.

I don't think I've ever heard that before? What a weird insult.

UGH I KNOW. I feel like I have lost something precious to me when I have to spring forward.

It's a very old-timey insult.

I've never heard that insult before either. I must admit it took me a few seconds to get what it meant as well because it's such a vague insult unless you know what context it's being said in.

I haven't heard that insult in a long time, but I think you're reading it right. Like, we're all just really gross, base people to start with, so we're "no better than" that by default. Blech.

Yep.

Adding to the "never heard that one" pile. Where do people say that?

Usually in historical novels set in the 1800s. It's not a contemporary insult.

The only good part about setting clocks forward is that it stays light later, which means more time for summer biking. I get so depressed during the winter when it starts getting dark at five.

Very, very good point.
