[livejournal.com profile] mollivanders has a great post using economic theory to look at shipping and fandom. It actually made me slightly more sympathetic towards writer's 'status quo is god' mindset. Check it out.

On that subject...

5 TV Couples That Just Need To Get Together Already. I agree with all of these (although it's too late for anything to save my affection for In Plain Sight) and especially Jeff and Annie. Which I actually feel has the lowest chance of getting together. Do you remember that episode where they homaged that famous A/J vid? I felt like that really encapsulated the show's plan for Jeff and Annie - they are going to textually tease the idea that those two have romance feelings for each other, and then tell the audience the audience is crazy when we want them to hook up.

I also agree about David/Mary Margaret. While I doubt there will ever be enough Charming/Snow saving each other and/or Snow artistically injuring Charming flashbacks, I am very 'meh' about their Storybrooke counterparts.

[livejournal.com profile] rashaka nailed why Elena would be better off with Elijah than anyone named Salvatore:

Like the Salvatorres, he's killed untold number of humans and people over his lifetime, and is unscrupulous about protecting his family. Which makes him exactly Elena's type: handsome, older, mass murderer. But... he's so polite! Has Damon ever sent his kidnap victims an apology letter? No way. Elijah is classy, and that makes him more likable to me than Stefan or Damon. If she wants a supermodel centuries-old vampire, Elena should pick from the top shelf.

Exactly.

Accurate. Won't ever actually happen. In a way I like that because the show will keep the friendships at the center and not let the romantic pairings take over. But after a certain point, teasing just because obnoxious.

HAHAHA ELIJAH IS SO POLITE. He'd probably send her a thank you note after sex.

Yeah, I'm at that 'stop with the obnoxious teasing' state with that relationship.

HAHAHA ELIJAH IS SO POLITE. He'd probably send her a thank you note after sex.

Now I want to read that note. And the rough drafts. Oh, man, that is totally something that he'd do.

FYI, I would like to read that mollivanders article but the link to the post doesn't seem to be there and I don't see it on her journal. (Although perhaps it's friends-locked.)

Just unlocked it when I saw this post :)

Oh thank you very much! :)

It was the formal wear! I have no defense against that sort of thing! It was all "oh look, Salvat-OMG, ELIJAH/ELENA FOREVER".

That is exactly why I don't hate Klaus/Caroline the way I should.

That too!

LMAO at that Elena/Elijah post! Perfect. xD

I would love to read mollivanders's post, but it's f-locked. :(

Unlocked as of now :) I had no idea it would be popular!

Jeff/Annie? I dunno. After seeing it turn up on Yuletide, I have been oddly drawn to Annie/Abed/Troy. But that's even less likely. Outside of that fic, I am entirely 'meh' on the concept of shipping in Community (except perhaps Abed and that Secret Service agent).

And what I want to happen with David/Mary Margaret is for David to stop being an ass. That'd clear everything right up.

Yeah, David finding his spine again would work wonders.

In a world where he regained the other set of memories when he saw the windmill instead, he and Snow would be double-dating with Katherine and Frederick, having divorced amicably and reached the point they can look back on it and laugh.

I am craving Fredrick/Kathryn so much. I CANNOT WAIT to see them actually interact in upcoming episodes (which they HAVE TO! ALL NARRATIVE SIGNS POINT IN THAT DIRECTION!)

Thanks for the shout out! :)

That article makes some great points. I am really sad to hear about the progress on In Plain Sight, which I gave up on mid-Mary's pregnancy. It just seems like the writers dropped the ball super hard and don't know how to get it back at this point.

You're welcome!

Yeah, Mary's pregnancy turned out to be a deal-breaker for me.

Wrt to ships, I actually wish more shows would stick to 'status quo is god', if by that you mean 'don't develop the romantic relationship between the leads and stick with flirty banter and let people read UST into that if they wish or ignore it if they don't want'. Shows are ruined for me by the writers being heavy-handed with the 'romance', tbh; they want it both ways, to make it clear THIS IS THE ONLY LEGIT OTP, but then they wuss out of exploring it properly because of *'ohnoes* Moonlighting Curse'. *eyeroll*

Agreed. I do think it's a challenge to do RST well but I think it's very much possible (and can absolutely give examples). And there are ways to drag out the romance without making the audience super-frustrated, too - but most often I feel like shows just refuse to commit to anything.

I was looking through your tags for your thoughts on the finale, and saw that you quoted me. Aww, thank you!

(Still shipping it! Even a little bit more, given the end of this season.)
