"I Think I'm A Sociopath."

Someone one my flist has a fantastic icon of Cecilia (aka Keira Knightly) from Atonement in that amazing green dress - either sitting on the steps or standing staring into the night... does anyone know the icon I'm talking about?

In other news, I am current on Rookie Blue! You do not know how happy I am to be up-to-date on at least ONE show.

Thoughts (especially on the most recent episode):



-Gail looks unbelievably amazing hungover. Seriously. She looked like a rockstar. (Write that AU, fandom.) And I cannot tell how happy Gail is making me in the last couple of episodes. I liked her and Andy and Traci hanging out, I liked her calling out the bridesmaid on being a good friend, and I CANNOT EXPRESS HOW PLEASED I AM that when Gail started questioning (basically) whether she was a worthy person, she was reassured that yes, she was, even if she didn't know how to express her feelings. (Seriously, do you know how rare that is? For a character like Gail to be reassured in that moment instead of having her realization of her shortcomings reinforced?)

–I'm liking what they've done so far with Andy and Sam. I like the feeling that these two are struggling to find a functional balance in their relationship. Also, Andy running away from Sam during the suspension was very in-character, (although the sky-diving scene was horribly out of place, imho, I thought for a minute that it was an ad.)

–I am really enjoying the arc with Dov's shooting. (Sidenote: can we talk about Dov and Chris' old men tastes? Because seriously - licorice and ginger ale? And you just know that Dov likes the gross, black licorice.) I have pretty much no sympathy for the sister, even though I should. He was robbing the store and shot a cop. Cause and effect. (Although I am aware of the HUGE racial issues surround that situation, and I can absolutely see how infuriating Dov -who is so very white and so very young and so very male - would be for the sister.)

–I am about ready to start fast forwarding through Noelle's scenes. I am so done with everything about her storyline. Look, I know I have no patience with pregnancies in the first place, so I had very little sympathy with her 'wah, wah, I want a baby' especially because I have very unpopular opinions about artificial insemination and biological children. But I have NO sympathy for her 'wah, wah, I'm preggers, can't go out of the street!' angst. It's like she did not think through actually having a child AT ALL.

YAY you're caught up!

How AMAZING was Gail this week? I loved everything that she did. EVERYTHING. I'm hopeful that they're going to play it that Gail can still be badass at the same time as being a good friend, because I dread the moment when it's decided that she can't be a bitch and be awesome. I'm always wary of the ret-con where the snarky bitch turns into the misunderstood princess and I DO NOT WANT that from Gail. At the moment they're treading the right side of a fine line, but I'm worried about where this love triangle is going to take us.

I'm also really enjoying the Sam/Andy dynamic. It's odd cause we've been so invested in the will they/won't they of it that it's almost as though there's something missing, but overall I'm happy with the way that it's playing out. It makes perfect sense to me that they're no longer front and centre cause they've worked out most of the crazy issues. And it's really nice to see some of the other characters coming to the fore.

Your words about Dov and Noelle? My thoughts. ESPECIALLY THE NOELLE STUFF. I'm so bored with her I can't even tell you. I just want to fast forward every scene she's in. Sadly.

Gail absolutely MADE the episode this week. I'm just so delighted by her every time. I love that she's so layered, and she is a very abrupt and sometimes harsh person, but is perfectly capable of still bonding with the other rookies and having friends. And I think they all trust her to watch their backs. She just isn't one-dimensional. She's FANTASTIC.

I really want to make a longer lj post about Rookie Blue but one thing that really struck me is awesome Gail's friendship is with Andy, Traci, and Dov. Because it's clear that they all care about her and that they know that she's a kind of abrasive, spiteful person (I say that with love) and they do not EVER try to tell her that she's wrong or bad. And I feel like that is really rare. To show not only positive female friendships but positive female friendships involving someone who is often not nice.

I actually decided to not pay for an account anymore because of all of LJs douchery and the fact that I'm not quite as active these days. I do wish I had more icons when I comment in communities and such but oh well.
